Can You Feel the Love?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

How blessed are we to be able to attend such an amazing school with lots to offer and so much spirit? Homecoming is when all that Hawkeye Pride comes out. As most Hawk fans know, this campus exudes game day spirit all year long. It is not uncommon to hear someone on a Thursday night shout “Go Hawks!” to random people, and they inevitably reply “Go Hawks!”. All year long there is so much campus spirit; it’s no wonder that so many people love to go to school here. In honor of Homecoming week, I decided to ask some fellow Hawkeyes why they love it so much, and here is what they said!

“Why do you love being a Hawkeye?”

“I love being a Hawkeye because everyone has so much school spirit here. No matter where you look there is a genuine, happy, fellow peer: it doesn’t matter your creed, color, race or religion Hawks stick together!” -Brandy Sanders, Junior

“I love the location, traditions and experiences that Iowa has had to offer me since I arrived here three years ago. The thing I love the most is the sense of pride I feel when I say ‘I go to the University of Iowa.'” -Mary Clark, Junior

“I love being a Hawkeye because I feel like our school is one big family. I could be in a different state across the country and see someone with a Hawkeye shirt on and strike up a conversation just as though we were in Iowa.” -Natalie Lawyer, Junior

“I love being a Hawkeye because Iowa City is my home away from home. Iowa has such a welcoming campus and community that features so many student organizations and events to be apart of. It’s easy to surround yourself with people at Iowa you click with. I found people at Iowa who I can’t imagine not talking to every day. I don’t think that could happen in just any place. I love being a Hawkeye!” -Madeline Jannes, Sophomore

“Growing up in Iowa City made me an automatic die hard Hawkeye fan. Cheering on the Hawkeyes when I was little to now cheering on the school that I now attend. I love being a Hawkeye because 1) I love how I can travel somewhere, and when I’m wearing a Hawkeye shirt and someone points it out and says “Go Hawks!” there’s an automatic connection. It makes being a Hawkeye that much more special. 2) The University of Iowa itself is an amazing school, which makes me that much more proud to say “Go Hawks!”. 3) Tailgating is a pretty cool experience. There are thousands of die hard fans that come out to cheer on the Hawkeyes, which is unlike any other college. It’s not just college students either that cheer on the Hawkeyes; it can also be a family gathering, which I think is awesome. 4) Being a Hawkeye is a way of life! Go Hawks!” -Natalie Fobian, Junior

“I love being a Hawkeye because it’s given me the opportunity to find my home in Greek life! Iowa has not only given me a first class education, but also a support system to help me be successful in everything I do!” -Dorise Nagel, Junior

“Throughout my time at the University of Iowa, I have been exposed to a number of resources I never knew I needed. There are so many incredible organizations on campus, but if the one you’re looking for isn’t found, you can easily form a new student org! I also love that the university is extremely inclusive and constantly striving to improve their inclusivity.” -Brianna Morgan, Junior

“I couldn’t be happier to be a Hawkeye because I can always count on endless school pride and smiles everywhere I turn! Being a Hawk means game days are never lacking black and gold, and my college town never lacks excitement. I am so thankful for all of the opportunities being a Hawkeye has given me. The memories I have formed here will always be some of the best of my life.” -Kylie Kreischer, Junior

As you can see, students at Iowa have many reasons why they love this amazing school. I love being a Hawkeye for the memories. You can never take enough pictures, Snapchats or videos to capture all the amazing moments you will experience on this campus. Iowa is full of interesting, creative and downright amazing people. I came here knowing only a handful of people, and now this place is my second home. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Currently I am a sophomore at the Universtiy of Iowa majoring in Elementary Education. I love writing, especially about how wonderful our campus is!
