Campus Cutie: Tori McCoy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

Meet University of Iowa’s most enthusiastic senior, Tori McCoy. You can catch her on campus sporting her favorite Dance Marathon spirit-wear or her very stylish contemporary outfits. Originally from Rochester, Minnesota, she’s leaving her mark on the University of Iowa one day at a time.

Major?

Athletic Training and pre-physical therapy.

Activities?

I’m a member of Alpha Delta Pi, as director of standards and ethics. I am the recruitment chair for Rho Lambda. And I’m a Morale Captain for Dance Marathon and a member of the athletic training club.

What inspired to join Dance Marathon?

I really liked dancing here my first year, and I literally thought it was just a dance club. Then I realized that I was raising money for kids with pediatric cancer. After my first big event I realized that this was a cause I wanted to fight for, and I wanted to help those kids. I know that if that was my brother in that situation I would want someone to help him. I also met a little girl who told me her story, and she didn’t have any hair. She was telling me how much she hated it because people would mix her up with a boy. And in that moment I realized that I not only wanted to join leadership and get more involved but I also wanted to shave my head and donate all of my hair. I basically wanted to show little girls that they shouldn’t be afraid of not having hair. I want to show them that being bald is beautiful and that your define whether you’re a boy or a girl. I actually ran the Chicago Marathon because no matter how much pain I would be in just running 26 miles, I will never experience the pain that these kids go through everyday of their lives.

Only Tori can attempt to model while running!

Spirit Animal?

Panda! I’m chill and can eat in a corner all day.

Plans for the future?

I want to go to grad school in Colorado and work with para-athletes and amputees. I’ve known that I want to work with athletes for the rest of my life, and I want to challenge myself and work with amputees and prosthetics.

If there was one person in the world that you could do anything for who would it be?

I would do anything for anyone as long as I love them.

One word to describe yourself:

I’m not good with words. Selfless.
