CAB Presents Amy Schumer at Carver-Hawkeye Arena

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

A few thousand fans packed into Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday night, anxious to see Amy Schumer perform live and munch on delicious Carver ice cream cones. The University of Iowa’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) brought Schumer to Iowa as part of a larger effort to bring big names to the University of Iowa’s campus. Last year, CAB brought Kevin Hart to perform at Carver.

Schumer spent the evening poking fun at Iowans’ love of corn and cow tipping as a sport. She also brought up Khloe Kardashian’s Women’s Health cover, a woman’s right to own her mermaid thighs and her love of Bradley Cooper. Schumer told the audience that they were her favorite stop so far, especially as a college town.

To the college students in the audience, Schumer reflected on her own time spent in college, joking about unfortunate dorm room hookups and eating way too much way too often.

“College is such a weird time. I gained like the freshmen 90. Eat in college. Gain weight,” Schumer said.

Fans gave Schumer a standing ovation before heading into downtown Iowa City for the remainder of their Friday night.

With over 15,000 seats, Carver is home to the Iowa basketball, wrestling, gymnastics and volleyball teams. After its opening in 1983, Carver has been the stage for major sporting events like the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials and the NCAA Women’s Division I basketball.

Carver’s large arena setting is the perfect venue for big names like Hart and Schumer. In the past, Carver has hosted other big talents like *NSYNC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Whitney Houston. Carver has also taken on student performances after the Hancher Auditorium suffered flood damage in 2008.
