Let’s be honest, any time is a GREAT time to be a Hawkeye. Be this year, it’s been specifically extraordinary. Definitely a year for the books.. and it’s not even over yet.
Here a few reasons why this year is the best year yet to be a Hawkeye..

Okay, do I even need to say anymore? This year our Iowa Hawkeyes broke the school record (if you missed that record-breaking Minnesota night game, I feel bad for you) having a 12-0 regular season finish clinching the Big Ten West Championship. This great regular season earned us a trip to the Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship game where lost a close, thrilling, hard-fought game. After their great performance, the Hawkeyes won the respect of many and got to head out to Pasadena for the holidays to play in the Rose Bowl. The season ended with a #9 ranking!

Let me clarify here, FTK means for the kids. This phrase is widely used by the amazing organization, Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is an organization that raises money for pediatric cancer. College students have to raise money in order to go to the Big Event and dance all day and night for 24 hours. This year hundreds of students danced the night away and raised $2.4 million all for children with pediatric cancer and their families.
Ball is life? Yes, Iowa Basketball is.
The Iowa Hawkeye basketball team is currently 20-5 and ranked #1 in the Big Ten so far. They have had a phenomenal season so far including a knockoff of Michigan State at a #1 ranking over winter break. They are currently ranked #4 in the nation. It should be exciting to see what March brings for our beloved basketball boys.
Caucus, Hawkus?
Being the year of the presidential election and Iowa being a prime state for politics because of caucuses, we had many potential presidential candidates come through where college students had the opportunity to meet and listen to their opinions. The University of Iowa shows a great presence when it comes to politics!
Grappling with an undefeated season.
Now Hawkeye Wrestling program has been absolutely thriving for forever. This season has been spectacular so far with an overall 16-0 record and a #2 team ranking. The team also has two #2, a #3, and a #4 ranked individuals. This awesome season started with a bang with the Grapple on the Gridiron. The team had an absolutely beautiful day to get a win against Oklahoma State in Kinnick Stadium with a record setting audience of 42,287 fans!!
Who knew dorms could be so luxurious?
I know when I walked into Peterson Hall for the first time I was extremely sad that my freshman self missed out on living there. With a beautiful lobby, coffee shop, restaurant with pool tables, and many other study rooms and lounge areas, Peterson Hall is far better than any hotel you could ever stay at. The dorm opened this year and was made available to many sophomores and freshmen here at the University.
Those are just a few of the MANY reasons this year is the best year to be a Hawkeye. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester has in store for us!!! GO HAWKS!!!!!
