Everyone’s favorite red head has made an appearance on the new live-action TV show based off of the iconic Archie Comics. If you haven’t heard, there’s a new group of teens in town, and they’re way different from what you might remember them as from the comics.
Archie Comics revolve around the adventures of Archie and his friends in a small town called Riverdale. The comics focus on friendships, playful rivalries and, of course, the famous love triangle between Archie and his two lady loves, Betty and Veronica. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the comics, Betty Cooper is the sweet girl next door who has had a crush on Archie since they were kids. Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Lodge is Betty’s best friend, so while Betty is on the sweeter side, Ronnie is the rich girl in town, and she’s not afraid to get her way. Archie Andrews is our main man, and I guess you could call him a player because he frequently appears with not only Betty and Veronica, but also a few other girls in the comics. Jughead Jones is Archie’s bestie, and I think we can all relate to him. He sticks to himself, doesn’t care about what people think of him and, most importantly, loves food. Personally, Juggie is my favorite character, but he’s not that chill to avoid the pranks of none other than Reggie Mantle. Reggie Mantle can be called a bully. He loves pranks, and he is Archie’s rival when it comes to football and Veronica’s attention. However, he has his moments, so I promise that he’s not all bad.
Season one has started off with the murder of a lovable high school student, Jason Blossom. What’s the story behind his murder, and who is the killer? So many questions! Don’t worry, though, everything has just begun, and a few of our characters have already started to question every single detail. Betty starts her investigation with none other than Jughead Jones. Jughead Jones plays a key role in Riverdale because he acts as a narrator for the show. For all the Suite Life of Zack and Cody fans out there, Cole Sprouse, who used to play Cody, has taken the role of Jughead in Riverdale, and let me just say he is a fantastic actor! If that’s not going to make you watch this show, I don’t know what will. His character keeps to himself and is pretty ok with being on his own, and now we know why. (Cole’s the perfect Jughead. He’s been in character all along!)
Now there have only been a few episodes up until now, but from what I’ve gathered, everyone has a secret agenda, and they’re willing to fight for it. This kind of makes me wonder how the people of Riverdale live with each other in their small town full of dark secrets. It’s almost as if the whole town hates one another, and the fact that this may be possible just makes you want to know why they are the way they are. I’d go crazy, but maybe that’s just it. Maybe their secrets will lead to exposure and chaos. We’ll have to find out.
Riverdale is a show you won’t regret watching. You’ll be hooked right from the first episode, and trust me, you will love the characters instantly. You’ll be inspired by how strong Ronnie is, how independent Jughead is, and you might even wish for Betty to be your best friend. Riverdale isn’t like the comics, which is good in a way because it’s like a breath of fresh air. I’m a huge fan of the comics, so you can imagine how I felt when the first poster was released. It was glorious, but I was hesitant as well, wondering if it was going to ruin my memories of the comics. It’s proved me wrong because these days in TV shows you need to have twists and plots to keep the story going. It’s pretty awesome how well they’ve treated the story so far because it’s going really well. It’s fast-paced and exciting; you’re definitely not going to get bored. The positive thing about watching it is that there are only a few episodes so far, so you don’t have to spend too long catching up. The down side is that there are only a few episodes for now, and if you do become a huge fan (I’m sure you will), you’re going to have to wait like us normal people for the weekly treat! For the fans out there, don’t be upset that it’s not like the comics because it’s a change, and there’s something pretty cool about seeing your favorite characters brought to life. Also, Riverdale has already been renewed for a second season, which makes me a very happy lady! Doesn’t matter if you’ve read the comics or not. Go watch it, you’ll absolutely love it!
