5 Low Cost Trips You And Your Friends Can Take This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

When finals are over and it’s time to roll down those windows and enjoy the summer, taking a trip with your friends is a must. But of course, being a college student means traveling on a budget. Here is a list of some cost effective places that will start your summer off strong.

1. Chicago, Illinois

Midwesterners know that the Windy City is the place to be. Spending the day at North Ave. beach or riding the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier are only just a few of the things you can do in this beloved city. For those who are on a budget but still want to have some fun, the Lincoln Park Zoo is completely free! And at the end of a long day, it’s imperative you can grab a slice of deep dish pizza from Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s on your way back (New York has got nothing on us!).

2. Daytona Beach, Florida

Located only an hour north of Orlando, Daytona Beach is known as a popular spring break destination for many college students. You have probably heard of the hopping nightlife and beautiful coast, but there are options to make your trip a bit more magical. There are plenty of shuttles that stop in Orlando. If you are dreaming of blasting off to Space Mountain in Disney World or casting those spells with Harry at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Daytona Beach is a way to get a beach vacation with a twist.

3. Albuquerque, New Mexico

For the nature lovers out there, Albuquerque is the place for you. The natural landscape offers amazing views and hiking trails that will leave you breathless. Old Town will charm you with its history and culture while leaving you spooked with an authentic ghost tour. This city has something for everyone and will become a place you visit again and again. It often goes overlooked, so snatching a deal on a hotel is in your favor.

4. Austin’s 6th Street, Texas

This historic street in the heart of Austin allows you to enjoy live music and has a variety of bars and restaurants. This up-n-coming city is a playground for those in their twenties, and would be the perfect place for a long weekend. If you are looking to truly immerse yourself in the local culture, stay at the affordable Firehouse Hostel that is just minutes from downtown.

5. Tampa Bay, FL

When thinking of a getaway, all thoughts point to the beach. Tampa is right on the water and is the perfect place to lay out and get your tan on. Roading tripping down with your closest friends can allow you to stop and sightsee along the way, ending with the relaxation of a lifetime. Lovers of the sea have to stop by The Florida Aquarium in downtown. The 5,000 gallon touch pool allows you to get up-close and personal with a few of the ocean’s creatures.

Here’s to an adventurous summer!
