Which “Friends” Character are you based on your UConn major?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Friends is one of the most popular TV shows watched, especially amongst college-aged students. Have you ever wondered which character you’d be? I got you! I’ll tell you which “Friends” character you are based on your major.

communications

You’re Rachel. Communication majors learn and develop a multitude of different skills needed for everyday life. Rachel loves aesthetics and is a hard worker who also enjoys having downtime with her family and friends. She always looks glamorous and put together, and gets a laugh out of people frequently with her witty humor. Rachel is a trendsetter and works as a fashion executive for Ralph Lauren. Of course, one must have superb communication skills to earn a job in the fashion and beauty industry at such a well-known company.

engineering

You’re Monica! She’s passionate, tenacious, extremely smart, and a bit of a perfectionist. Monica puts her heart and soul into everything that she does and never gives up on any task. She challenges herself, is motivated, is energetic. These are necessary qualities for people in STEM. Monica is level-headed and practical, two traits that are commonly seen in engineering majors. Monica also loves to cook for people and works as a chef. Math is necessary when it comes to cooking. Accurate measurements of ingredients are important!

drama/acting

You’re Joey! Not only is he super funny and charming; Joey is quite talented. (he stars on a soap opera!) Joey uses his charm to score dates fairly often, and gets very excited when he is shown acting on TV. Joey is very loyal and protective of his friends Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, and Ross. Joey is creative, persistent, and passionate.

music

You’re Phoebe! Phoebe is commonly seen playing her guitar and singing at the Central Perk. She also writes her own songs! She is happy-go-lucky, sweet, funny, caring, and confident. As a music major, one of the best and most essential qualities to have is confidence! Sing your heart out and don’t let anyone ruin your passion, just like Phoebe.

business marketing

You’re Chandler! Chandler works in the field of statistical analysis and data reconfiguration. He is eventually promoted to Processing Manager and head of his work office. He makes some bank! Not only is Chandler very loving and affectionate (especially to Monica); he also showcases his humor with many witty and sarcastic remarks. Chandler has superior leadership skills in the workplace and is efficient in problem solving, networking, decision-making, and negotiating. Of course, Chandler’s best quality, at least in my opinion, is his hilarious sense of sarcastic humor.

ecology & evolutionary biology

You’re Ross! Ross is very interested in paleontology, the study of fossils and plants. The ecology and evolutionary biology major provides students with the tools to learn about evolution, ecology, and botany, and environmental biology. Some of my favorite qualities of Ross include his love for his friends and family, his humor, and his adorable awkwardness. Ross worked as a paleontologist at the Museum of National History, and later became a tenured professor of paleontology at New York University. (throwback to the episode where one of his students told him that he was in love with him in order to get a good grade)

Although they are each quite different, each “Friends” character— and each major— has a variety of skills and attributes that allow them to succeed!

Hi! I'm Lilly, and I am a senior communications major at the University of Connecticut.
