UConn Students “Speak OUT” Against LGBTQ Hate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Today at the UConn Speaks OUT event in the Student Union Ballroom, members and supporters of the LGBTQ community shared personal stories and feelings about speaking out against LGBTQ hate speech. The event is a reponse to the March 5th defacement of the Rachelle Lee’s Student Union Art Gallery Exhibit “Speaking OUT: Queer Youth in Focus.”

The event description reads: “Come listen to community voices speaking OUT against LGBTQ hate speech that continues to exist on campus. Together we can show that hate is NOT welcome at UConn.”

The event was preceded by a popular social media campaign that featured photographs of UConn students.

For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page , Twitter or Instagram (@UConnSpeakOUT).
