On one of the last weekends before finals, UConn students had the chance to relax and spend some time away from their books by celebrating the festival of colors, also known as Holi. Holi is a Hindu holiday that honors the Hindu god Krishna, celebrates the arrival of spring, and gives people the chance to forgive any past conflicts and have fun with one another. Brightly colored powder is distributed to people and is meant to be thrown at friends, family, or complete strangers, turning giant crowds into a mosaic of all different colors.

See how Holi is celebrated the UConn way!

What better way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning than throwing colored dry paint at your friends? That’s what crowds of UConn students were thinking as hundreds of kids came from all over campus to celebrate this festival of color.

What would normally be a peaceful college green turned into a battlefield of color as college students armed with dry paint took to the green across from Wilbur Cross to start celebrating Holi. It didn’t matter if those around you were your friends or not, anyone was fair game to recieve a splash of color.

Sunglasses were a must, as dry paint was thrown everywhere and could easily get into your eyes!

Although many people decided to wear white shirts, within minutes shirts were transformed from white to rainbow.

By the time the supply of dry-paint ran out everyone was completely covered in color and ready for a very long shower once they got back to their dorm.

Happy Holi everyone!
