With summertime just around the corner, I know we can all think back on those stormy days when we don’t quite feel like leaving the comfort (and coolness) of our homes. On those days, you need something to waste the day doing — what’s better than bingeing ’90s rom-coms? Nothing. Absolutely nothing is better. Below, I’ve compiled a list of my five absolute favorite ’90s rom-coms that you must watch (or watch for the hundredth time) on those rainy days this upcoming summer!

1. Clueless

Now I know we’ve all seen this movie at least one to ten times but it does really never get old. Coming from someone who watched the entire series of Friends five times, I don’t mind a little rewatch every now and then. But seriously, I know this may be cliché, but Clueless is up there on my list for best movies…well ever! I know we’re all in college now, but getting to sit back and watch this movie unlocks a whole wave of memories. Whether reminiscing on the first time you watched it with all your BFFs in middle school, admiring Cher’s amazing fashion sense, or hopelessly wishing you were a teen in the ’90s — Clueless is for absolutely everyone, so make sure to watch this summer!

2. 10 Things i hate about you

Whether you love it or hate it, 10 Things I Hate About You is an absolute cult classic. There’s nothing quite like a little sister rivalry, a trivializing high school love story, and the strong feminist role that Kat brings to the big screen. Not to mention, I want to steal ALL of their clothes. This movie is a 100% rewatch, and is a no-brainer when it comes to a cozy day this summer!

3. Notting hill

Julia Roberts — need I say more? This film portrays the blooming love between two people from two absolutely different worlds: a small bookstore owner from London, and a world-famous Hollywood actress. What else do we really need besides the small-town guy and big-shot girl trope that we all know and love? Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts truly nail the chemistry between these two characters. I can’t forget to mention how much I LOVE the neighborhood the film is set in as well — Notting Hill of course! Every aspect of the movie just makes perfect sense, including the light-hearted humor, mixed with the sappy (adorable) little love story. If you’re looking for the definition of rom-com please look no further, and watch Notting Hill this summer!

4. While you were sleeping

Looking for a love story with a little twist, look no further than While You Were Sleeping starring Miss Sandra Bullock. This film follows the love story (ish) between Lucy a toll booth operator, and a daily commuter Peter who passes by her booth everyday. One day Peter falls into the tracks, evidently putting him into a coma. While in the hospital there’s a bit of a mix up, leading Peter’s family to believe that Lucy is his fiancé. As time goes on Lucy and Peter’s brother Jack being falling for one another. While You Were Sleeping in my opinion is a picture perfect rom com and it’s a must-watch if all you rom com lovers haven’t tuned in yet!

5. “The Parent Trap”

Without fail, The Parent Trap, featuring Lindsay Lohan, has always held a special place in my heart, securing its place in my top five movies of all time for years now. Not only does this movie capture the love between twins separated at birth leading two separate lives, but also the dedication they have to mend their parents’ relationship. There’s never a bad time to watch this film, but summer just seems especially fitting to me. I’m a firm believer that after our first watch in elementary school, most of us begged our parents to go to sleep-away camp, wished for a twin, and probably wanted to pierce our own ears…hopefully not. This movie is a cult classic and will never ever fail to entertain me with every single watch.

I hope you tune into at least one (or all!) of these classics on a rainy day this summer! Enjoy your well-deserved break, and see you in a few, UConn!
