Okay, I have something to admit…I might have a small addiction to ‘80s movies. But trust me, after you check out my top 10 favorite ones below, I’m sure you will too! The ’80s were an iconic period so it only makes sense that the movies are to die for. These films made us fall in love with Winona Ryder, Anthony Michael Hall, Tom Hanks, Molly Ringwald, I mean the list goes on. So, grab a blanket and a friend and pick a flick off this list.

1. Heathers

Before Mean Girls, there were the heathers. This dark comedy is cynical yet hilarious and if you thought high school couldn’t get crazier… trust me it could.

2. When Harry Met Sally

When Harry met Sally was a twist on romantic comedies that tested a question asked by many. Can a man and a woman be just friends? We get to follow Harry and Sally over the course of 12 years to see how their lives keep bringing them together.

3. Stripes

Stripes, starring Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, had me laughing the entire night. Two friends who have nothing to lose decide to join the army and realize it is not what they thought it would be.

4. Dead Poet’s Society

We all know Robin Williams for his hilarious roles, but this coming of age film brought tears to my eyes. A prep school teacher, Mr. Keating, inspires a group of teenage boys to go outside their comfort zone and choose their own path.

Trigger warning: suicide

5. Ferris Buller’s Day Off

I know for fact that when we were all stuck in high school, we dreamed of the perfect day playing hooky. When watching this movie, we can live vicariously through Ferris Bueller as he goes into New York City to find a day of fun with his friends.

6. Big

I have never met someone who has seen this movie and disliked it. A child who wishes he was ‘big’ gets his wish granted and has to face the world on his own. This comedy teaches us all an important lesson on how not to lose our childlike take on fun.

7. The Breakfast Club

A group of teenagers who come from different social circles find themselves stuck in Saturday detention. This movie portrays a mix of emotions and teen rebellion which is all too relatable for adolescents.

8. Ghostbusters

If there something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! I mean if you haven’t seen it you’ve at least heard of it. This iconic comedy is perfect for spooky season but honestly, I could watch these guys hunt ghosts any time of year.

9. Nightmare on Elm Street

Speaking of spooky season, Freddy Krueger kept me from sleeping for days! If you love horror movies this one, where Kruger hunts teenagers in their dreams, is a must-see.

10. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

A movie that was magic for its time is still magic to this day. E.T. is a feel-good and heartwarming film as we get to see an unusual friendship develop between a stranded alien and a young boy.
