Whenever I tell people that I like reading I always get the same basic response: “Yeah, I haven’t read a book in like three years. Haha.” Of course, then there’s another person in the conversation that tries to one-up that by saying that they haven’t read a book in five years, and so on. I understand not everyone has time to sit down and read a four-book series or just a standalone. But, although reading is time-consuming, I can safely say that reading is one of the most rewarding things to do. I’ve read tons of books, but out of all of them, I can also safely say that there are three I think everyone should get to at least once.

It Ends with us by Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us is one of Colleen Hoover’s most popular books, and for a good reason. The book tells the story of a young woman named Lily Bloom who moves to Boston after finishing college. While opening up her new business, she meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, but due to a tough start to their relationship, she feels unsure about how to proceed with him. As she feels herself falling in love with Ryle, Lily runs into her first love, Atlas Corrigan. His reappearance rocks Lily and Ryle’s relationship to a whole new level. This is a book that will have you crying, laughing, and then crying again. It is one that I cannot recommend enough, and I wish more people would read it. If you’re thinking about reading this book, please be aware that this book contains mature themes and topics that not everyone will be comfortable reading about. Please be sure to check the trigger warnings just in case.

The Seven Husbands of evelyn hugo by taylor jenkins reid

Having retired from acting, Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo is a mystery to many. Though well-known for her movies, she was most notoriously known to the world for being married seven times to seven different men. Little is known about her personal life until years later when Monique Grant, an amateur journalist living in New York City, is asked by Evelyn Hugo herself to write the autobiography of her scandalous life. Though unsure, she agrees, but as Evelyn starts telling her about her upbringing, career, and marriages, Monique only has one question in her mind. Why choose her to write about it? The book takes many twists and turns, yet as you go deeper into Evelyn Hugo’s life, everything pieces together in a shocking way. With beautiful writing, remarkable characters, and a memorable story, it will not leave your mind for months.

the falconer BY Dana Czapnik

This book is the shortest of the three I’ve recommended, so I’d pick this one if you don’t have a ton of time. It follows Lucy Adler, a confident basketball player living in New York City in the early 1990s. As she accepts her feelings for her best friend Percy, Lucy realizes that he isn’t as perfect as she thought he was and that maybe she’s better off on her own. Get ready for some of the greatest character development you’ve ever seen alongside some of my favorite writing. I’m serious; I went through an entire pack of tabs just marking lines that I loved. Maybe I’m a bit biased since this is the book that got me into reading, but I still think everyone should get to read it at least once.

Whether you choose to read all three or just one, I can guarantee you will walk away with a little something after you’re done!
