Being short isn’t all that it is cracked up to be. Yes, we do get all of our average sized friends hand-me-downs, get to be front row in photos, and pay super cheap prices for child size Nikes, but our height deficiency does expose us to some daily struggles. I am here to let those of you who are lucky enough to be a part of the “fun-sized” community that you are not alone. I have created a list of these matters we must conquer day to day, in no sort of ranking (because they all are equally aggravating).
1. Your feet do not touch the ground when sitting down. Sometimes you can even get a full swing of the legs.
2. You always have to speed walk when walking with your friends.
3. Yes, you are ashamed that you have to climb all over the kitchen cabinets to reach something – it’s okay, we all do it.
4. Dresses and pants will always be too long on you.
5. When people tell a short joke, but you are pretty sure you have heard it 100 other times before ( sorry, it’s not funny :/ ).
6. Wearing heels still does not make you as tall as your boyfriend or bestie.
7. You never nap because it’s way too much effort to try and climb into your lofted bed – so yes, that is why you are endlessly tired.
8. People assume that because you are five feet tall you cannot possibly be in college.
9. You will forever be carded at the bar, but you will probably be happy about this in thirty years.
10. Everyone forgets that you are legal to drink (including your own mother).
11. The first thing people say when they get into your car is, “Oh my gosh! Your seat is so far up!” or “I love the leg room back here!”
12. You may or may not still wear little girls or boys clothes…
13. “OMG you are SO cute!”
14. People think you are a rag doll because you are so “fun sized.”
15. You will always be your mom’s “little girl.”
