Spring Semester at UConn: As Told by ‘Parks and Recreation’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Getting back into the school routine after binge-watching Netflix all break is definitely an adjustment. The spring semester brings new classes (and struggles),  but there are some things about UConn that never change.

When your professor tells you the book is only available through the Co-op:

It’s amazing that we have some of the best professors around, but when their books are class and UConn specific, it can become a real pain to cough up the cash.

When you see Geno around campus:

We all know and love him, but when you run into Coach Geno it’s like seeing your childhood dreams come to life. He’s definitely one of our favorite Huskies.

…but everyone’s favorite Huskies are our beloved mascots.

Lets face it: You’ve probably been late to class because you were waiting in line to pet those loveable dogs!

When you have to walk down Fairfield Way:

It’s beautiful in the summer and fall, but when winter hits you do everything you can to avoid it. Your face will burn, your eyes will water and you know you will have to cross it again at some point today.

When you’re lucky and can ride the bus to class, but see fellow Huskies running:
You are freezing just looking at them. It’s amazing being at a D1 school where everyone is super active, but it’s too cold to leave your dorm, let alone run outside.

…And then when you’re not so lucky and miss the bus:

Although our campus is beautiful, you are guaranteed a hike to get from class to class. Who needs the gym when you have class in MSB and then have 5 minutes to get to Oak Hall.

When you finally make it to class and the wifi won’t connect:

UConn Secure vs. UConn Guest. You’ve mastered the art of switching between the two, but leave it to the wifi to crash when you need it the most.

And when it does work, you see the most recent posts on UConn Buy or Sell:

This seems to be people’s favorite way to spread information quickly: good or bad. It’s always luck of the draw on Buy or Sell, but you’re usually in for some entertainment regardless.

But through all of the cold and endless classes, you remember you are at UConn…
And wouldn’t want to be a student anywhere else.
