Halloween is creeping up! Are you ready? If you’re having trouble getting in the spirit this year, have no fear! I have put together a playlist of songs that are sure to get you in the mood. Some of these songs may not have been written with the intention of being creepy or scary or spooky, but some aspects of them gave me spooky vibes, whether that be the title, the lyrics, the melody, the baseline, or the music video. Either way, this playlist is meant to be fun while bringing all the spooky vibes:

1. “This Is Halloween” from The Nightmare Before Christmas

This may seem like an obvious one, but you can’t ignore the classics! Honestly, watching this entire movie is sure to put you in a spooky mood.

2. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

This song is so creepy but soooo catchy! If you’re looking for something you can dance to (like a zombie, of course), then this is that song. Top it off with that spine-chilling poem at the end and you’ll be ready for a night of frights!

3. “Disturbia” By Rihanna

Another great dancing song! And long live Rihanna’s music career, am I right? This song is perfect to make you feel nostalgic for Halloween’s past, trick-or-treating in a costume that your mom made you wear a jacket over. It’s okay though, the candy was worth it!

4. “Creep” by Radiohead

Will this song get you in your feels? Maybe. But if you think of it in the context of Halloween, maybe it won’t! I don’t know. It’s just a good song.

5. “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell

If you have ever listened to this song while alone and really paid attention to the lyrics, it is hair-raising. Really creepy to hear over and over that somebody’s watching you. Definitely will get you in the scary mindset.

6. “Calling All the Monsters” by China Anne McClain

Another classic! This song has been sweeping TikTok every year around this time. China Anne McClain actually just rerecorded this song with her sisters! Listen to both or choose your favorite (mine is the original). This one is a must-have for Halloween.

7. “Chasing the Sun” by The Wanted

This one may seem like an odd choice, but hear me out. This song is about vampires. Don’t believe me? Listen closely to the lyrics! “We’ll never grow old again,” or “until forever comes” point at the immortality of vampires. Still not convinced? Watch the music video. I swear, it’s about vampires! Plus, it’s catchy, so it’s included in this playlist.

8. “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots

Recorded for Suicide Squad back in 2016, this song has an eerie tone, which makes sense considering it’s talking about people as crazy as Harley Quinn and the Joker.

9. “Zombie” by The Cranberries

Pretty self-explanatory, right? The song is called “Zombie.” And it goes hard! If you’re looking for a more modern version, Miley Cyrus released a cover of this song on her most recent album, Plastic Hearts. 10/10, would recommend.

10. “she wolf” by shakira

The parallels between what is described in these lyrics and a werewolf are uncanny. We’ve had vampires, ghosts, and zombies in this playlist, so we have to round it out with werewolves. Shakira knew what she was doing with this one.
