My Top 4 Favorite Sitcoms

You may ask, What is a sitcom? Only the best type of TV show genre to ever exist. Sitcom stands for situation comedy. I admit it’s not the best title for a genre, but those twenty minutes of screen time are worth it. Some might say sitcoms are cheesy with their brain-rotting type of jokes, but I find them comforting. There is no effort or thought put into watching a sitcom like there is for a movie or drama TV show. Only have time to watch one episode? Limiting your screentime? Sitcoms are a perfect solution. You’ll be left with a good laugh and still be able to continue your productive day. Sitcoms are a great genre to watch when you want to pass the time, but they also serve as great bingeing shows. As a sitcom enthusiast (it’s literally all I watch 24/7), here are my top 5 must-watch sitcoms.

. The Office

If you don’t know of The Office in 2025, you must be living under a rock, but you are in luck because I am about to introduce you to the best show of all time. Michael Scott, the infamous role played by Steve Carell, has to be one of the funniest TV bosses known to humankind. To give a little recap on this show, it is based on a company named Dunder Mifflin in Philadelphia. Each episode goes through daily adventures and obstacles that happen around the office. The Office humor is unmatched and will have you rolling on the floor by the end of the episode. Not only does The Office have the most hilarious jokes, but it also follows tropes of friends-to-lovers, work rivalries, and wholesome moments. The writers of The Office are pure genius and make the audience feel as if they are growing up with them. You see a whirlwind of emotions and real-world struggles. They do an impeccable job of looking at the bright side in every situation, and I find that it truly resonates with many people going through similar situations. The Office will forever be top-tier in my eyes. And watch the American version, not the British one!

My Rating: 11/10

. Modern Family

Another amazing show, consisting of 11 seasons. For a show to have that many seasons, it must be incredible… and it is. Modern Family uses universal humor; no matter what age you are, you will get a good laugh. This show follows one big family throughout many years. Something I adore about this show is that for every one of its viewers, there is a character they can relate to. Grumpy teenager, midlife crisis, new parents, elderly, it’s all covered. Not to mention, each character has such a unique personality that the actors portray perfectly. I specifically get a laugh from Cam and Mitchell; their personalities serve as a perfect recipe for my humor. Similar to The Office, this is a show where you grow up with the characters and see them learn from their mistakes and situations that may have happened in your life.

My Rating: 10/10

. How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM)

I recently started watching this HIMYM. This sitcom is not nearly talked about enough. This underrated TV show is perfect for hopeless romantics! Ted Mosby and his group of friends take on life’s challenges, specifically the search for a partner. The audience is taken on the journey of modern dating and the search for the love of Mosby’s life. I find this extremely relatable. Dating can be hard, and I find comfort in seeing how Ted struggles through romance. The main characters in the show are in their 30s, and the majority of them don’t have their lives settled down yet. I find comfort in knowing that it’s okay to take life slow and enjoy the little spontaneous moments. Character development is a huge part of this series. You’ll see characters grow from their unhealthy habits to finding friends, partners, and other influential people who help them succeed. This is my #1 bingeing show. You’ll find yourself starting episode one, and in three days, you’ll be on the fourth season just like that!

My Rating: 8.5/10

. Abbot Elementary

This is one of the many hidden gems of television. This show follows a group of teachers who become a friend group. One thing I love about this show is that it was created recently. I find that it has many references to current trends, which are very comical. For example, in one of this season’s latest episodes, it mentioned the labubu craze. I tend to view this show when I’m looking for a good laugh and background noise while doing busy work. It’s the perfect show to distract you for five minutes but not entirely derail you from your studies. I recommend this sitcom to anyone passionate about their career, especially teaching. One of the many topics portrayed in this show is self-worth and enthusiasm for your profession. The main character teaches care deeply for the children they teach and displays how the community comes together to achieve greatness, alongside a chuckle. Not to mention it also has a love trope! And who doesn’t love a good love story?

My Rating: 7.8/10

There are hundreds of sitcoms out there, but trust me, you don’t want to miss these four shows. All are life-changing and will have you raving about them the second you finish the first episode. I’m not someone who laughs easily, but these shows have me cracking up to the point I am crying. With that, I encourage you to take the time to watch a least one episode from each of these series before writing it off. Happy sitcom bingeing!
