Name: Jordan Zielinski

Age: 20

Major: Finance (Economics Minor)

Hometown: Hamden, CT

Fun Fact: I am an ordained minister!

What is Pi Sigma Epsilon?

JZ: Pi Sigma Epsilon is a co-ed business fraternity. We are open to all majors and focus our efforts on networking, professional development, and career preparation.

What is your current position in this fraternity?

JZ: I am chief financial officer which means I manage our bank account, carry out any funding related tasks, and make a yearly budget.  It is definitely a lot more behind the scenes effort than it seems.  I would say that I have the hardest job on the e-board because a lot of my tasks get overlooked by other members.

Tell me about your other involvement around campus.

JZ: I am also a mentor for a Community Outreach project called COPE.  We go into local elementary schools to provide disadvantaged children with social support, which is something that I absolutely love.  In addition, I am a facilitator for the Leadership Certificate Series.  This series is comprised of four nine-week programs aimed at team building, leadership skill development, and challenging conventional ideas of leadership.

How do you balance school, a social life, and remaining so involved around campus?

JZ: It is all about organization, which is super important for my position, especially because I’m working with other peoples money. I try to file everything I have. I also plan out my days and have a really set schedule.  It’s a lot of work and some weeks certain commitments get more attention than others.

Do you experience any sexism being a female in a male- dominated field of study?

JZ: Yes! It sucks! I interviewed with a company as my first interview in a college setting. At the end of the interview, the woman interviewing me said that if I’m going to accept the job offer, I better be understanding of the fact that there are only a few females in this specific company.  She said it’s a tough position to be in as a woman and basically told me to suck it up.  In addition, most of my classes are male-dominated, but it’s definitely empowering to know that the demographics of the workforce are changing and women are more accepted in this field.  I like knowing that I am a part of that.

What is your dream job?

JZ: Owner of all the dogs.

Who is your female inspiration?

JZ: I really love the girls from Fifth Harmony.  The world watched them overcome failure and now they are killing it.
