How to Make Your Galentine’s Day Truly Lit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

A trip to the mall or grocery store has certainly made it impossible to forget the upcoming love fest that is Valentine’s Day with their aisles teeming with chocolates, teddy bears and heart shaped things of every size. For most single college ladies, however, February 14th is not the day they’ll be gearing up for all week. The real reason to get excited is celebrating your besties on Galentine’s Day. It might not be all that official of a holiday, but that won’t stop everyone from planning a Galentine’s Day so good Leslie Knope would be proud. To help make it the best day ever, here are a few ideas

1. Stock up on all the goodies

Order a pizza. Eat a whole bag of gummy bears. Buy enough pints of Ben and Jerry’s for everyone to have their own, and undoubtedly, they’ll all be empty by the end of the night. Spend all night free from healthy diet restrictions and celebrating the girls willing to forget about their health for night when their best friends want to eat sugar and complain about boys.

2. Gather all your girls to watch the most predictable chick flick you can find

A trip to the movies to see Fifty Shades Freed would be well worth leaving the house, but for those planning a night in sweatpants, there are other options. For making fun of the cheesiness that is the majority of chick flicks while secretly wishing your life was as perfect as in a rom-com, any movie from Bridesmaids to Clueless will do. Ditch Netflix and chilling with bae for binge watching bad romance films with your true soulmates.

3. Wine, wine and more wine

Can you even call it a girl’s night if there’s not a bottle of rosé being passed around? Maybe you can, but that doesn’t mean wine shouldn’t be a mandatory requirement on Galentine’s Day. For friends trying to avoid those fears of being single forever there’s no better way to force the negative thoughts out of mind. For the rest of you, it’s simply a classy way to get tipsy on a Wednesday night. It will guarantee a good time had by all.

4. Host a spa night

Self-care is the new trend and February 14th is a perfect excuse to treat yourself while being surrounded by the women you love most. Put on face masks, light candles and incense, give each other manicures or whatever else makes you feel relaxed and beautiful. It’ll have you feeling amazing about yourself despite the way Valentine’s Day often makes single girls feel.

5. Skip class for brunch and shopping.

So Galentine’s Day might fall in the middle of the week this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give yourself the day off to make the most of the one day designed to commemorate you and all your amazing friends. What could be better than mimosas and waffles with friends? There’s no better time to break your 2018 diet than with the girls who would never make you feel bad about indulging for the day.

As long as you are with the women you call your best friends and reminding one another of how awesome it is to have girls in your ife supporting you, then you’re doing Galentine’s Day right.
