The Frugal Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Dressing fashionably can be a challenge for a busy UConn student. Between homework, studying and going to class there is little time for much else. Not to mention that keeping up with the latest trends can become costly. But fear not collegiates because dressing like a celebrity is easier than you think! With these tips and tricks you’ll find yourself dressing chic without break the bank.

I’m sure many of you, like me, love Kim Kardashian’s style. Recently, Kim wore this trendy outfit out on a shopping trip. Although Kim looks great, her outfit is very expensive. Her Hermes handbag alone costs over $10,000! But lucky for you, you can recreate this entire look for less than $200.

To get Kim’s look start with a basic white t-shirt. I’m sure most of you already have a white tee hanging in your closets, but if not try this one from Forever 21 for $5.50.

To get Kim’s look you will then need a leather jacket. Leather jackets are great for fall because they’ll keep you warm as you run around campus and they’re super comfy! To save money try this one from Forever 21 for $37.80.

Next, try adding your favorite scarf over the jacket. Kim is wearing a gorgeous hot pink scarf in this photo but feel free to add any scarf you have. You can play with different colors and patterns. If you want something similar to Kim’s try this scarf from Target for $12.99.

Next, throw on your favorite pair of skinny jeans. These Divine Rights of Denim jeans are available at Forever 21 for $26.80. Jeans are a collegiate’s best friend because they are quick to throw on and always look great.

Kim paired her outfit with a yellow Hermes Birkin handbag. The Hermes Birkin is a beautiful leather handbag but is super expensive. A cheaper alternative is this handbag from Target. Unlike the Hermes bag this one will only cost you $34.99.

To complete this look you need to add some edgy shoes. Although we can all agree that Kim’s Christian Louboutin heels are gorgeous, let’s be real none of us could possibly get from Arjona to Beech Hall in those without twisting an ankle. But if you’re feeling risky or if you’re going to rock this look for a night out you can try these heels from Forever 21! The best part? These shoes will only cost you $24.80!

But if you’re planning on wearing this look to class you’ll want to opt for a more comfortable shoe. These booties from Forever 21 have the same edgy feel as Kim’s but are flat so you’ll have no problem walking around campus. And for less than $30 why wouldn’t you pick these up?

So there you have it collegiates, a chic celebrity inspired outfit on the cheap. Now you can dress like Kim Kardashian …even if you’re just going to biology in MSB.
