Danielle Eftaxas: Panhellenic President

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

What’s your major and, if applicable, minor? Double major in Psychology & Sociology

What’s your hometown? West Caldwell, New Jersey

What year are you? Junior

How long have you been affiliated with Delta Zeta for? Since my first semester at UConn, Fall 2011!

What are your favorite things about being in a sorority? The sisterhood and the bonds that I have formed is definitely my favorite part of being in a sorority. I have gained lifelong best friends and will be able to call these women my sisters forever. I also love all the opportunities being in a sorority has given me like participating in HuskyTHON, being on Delta Zetas executive board, being a member of the Greek Peer Ambassador team and of course being elected Panhellenic President!

Why did you run for President of the Panhellenic Council? I have always been a huge advocate for Greek Life and love what it has given me. This semester I was a member of the Greek Peer Ambassador team and was able to talk to potential incoming freshmen, parents, and undergrads about Greek Life. I found this as an easy thing to do and something that I loved! I hope that as President I can convince more women that being in a Panhellenic Sorority is so amazing.

What do you hope to accomplish as President? I hope to add some new Panhellenic-wide and Greek-wide events such as the Husky Halloween event that was held this October! It’s so great when we get to have events that incorporate all the chapters. Also, to have another great recruitment in the Fall and help hundreds of new women find their home in one of our chapters!

What do you think is the biggest problem facing Greek life and what do you want to do to change this? The biggest problem facing Greek Life is our lack of exposure to the rest of the UConn campus. My goal is to reach out to other organizations and clubs to do joint-fundraisers and events. Many other organizations on campus don’t know what Greek Life is all about and I would like to show them what we have to offer. Every chapter has a cause or foundation that they support and I think it would be an amazing opportunity to bring in other groups on campus to help us achieve our goals.

Are you a part of any other clubs or organizations or hold any jobs on campus? I am a research assistant for one of my psychology professors. I work in the Social and Emotional Developmental Lab, which has given me great insight into my future goals!

What are your future goals? I plan to go to graduate school after UConn and earn my degree and eventually work as a Child Psychologist. I also hope that my endeavors here at UConn in Greek Life will allow me an opportunity to work at my new schools Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life!
