When you meet Brianna Charee, she doesn’t hold back her authentic self. In fact, she wants you to know her and see who she is. She puts herself out there for you to meet, saying:
I’m Brianna Charee, I’m the flyest motha f**ka from the 203

Brianna is 23 years old, an entrepreneur, has served in the military, is close with her family, strong in her faith, and loves music. “Music is… [where I put] most of my time and energy,” she tells me, and she doesn’t have to say much to convince me that music is her passion. The way her face lights up when talking about it is all that’s needed to know how much it means to her.
We sat down for a Zoom chat on a Tuesday evening and talked about all things Brianna. She left me feeling inspired and motivated, all eyes on the endless possibilities of future achievement—a feeling she hopes people have when listening to her music.
Brianna’s journey into music started at home, she tells me, “When I first started music, I started by making beats in the kitchen off of my phone…and then when I actually started writing over my own beats, I’m like hold on, this could go somewhere. So I’ve just been tapping into that ever since, and I feel like I could take it to the top with this.” But she didn’t always have confidence in her music. It wasn’t until she started hearing about the impact her art had on other people that she realized this was her calling, her “truth.”
When she started turning her beats into music she began receiving “messages and people would say ‘Hey I just heard your song and it helped me with such and such.’ I was like what my, my music is helping you with something, or you feel inspired—that was like an out of body moment.” It is moments like these where she realizes how powerful her work is and that she wants it to have this impact on people. It’s the knowledge that her music is bigger than herself that makes her feel helping people is her purpose: “I feel like I have different talents, but they all lead to helping people.”
I was like what my, my music is helping you with something…that was like an out of body moment.

It’s this drive for building community that motivates her in all areas of life. Artistically, her drive is rooted in the power of her words to inspire others, but she also translates this into events in her city. I asked her about these events she organizes and why she started them. She tells me she noticed a lack of opportunity for the people in her neighborhood to come together at the end of COVID-19. So, she made a community in basketball form. She pitched the idea to her brother and they’ve been doing it every year since, this will be the fourth one and she is amazed by what “an idea brought to life.”
This is the same mentality she brings to her music. Her newest release, “There’s No More Rules” comes from that same place inside Brianna, nestled somewhere between heart, creativity, and her truth. I asked her to talk about the creative process and the message behind this mixtape and she says there is a written description, but “the vibe is like, ok I’m here, there’s no more rules, nobody can tell me anything…Nowadays anybody could do what you’re doing…if I could be somebody who makes motivational music that uplifts somebody, there’s no more rules to this shit.”
Her feelings are personally aspirational in the sense that if they can do it, she can do it, but she also wants her listeners to feel the same. “With the mixtape, you’re going to feel enlightened. I feel like after you hear it, you’re going to feel motivated, you’re probably going to feel encouraged, and you’re going to feel like a boss.”
We took a deep dive into the song “Hot Shit” and she tells me it all came together in one day, produced by Jayson Sankar, her engineer. This song is about sharing what she’s going through, but also dialoguing with the listener. It’s not just a piece about what she’s accomplished and overcome, but uplifting others to do the same. She says of the song, “towards the end, I’m talking to you guys, explaining what I’ve been through in the past year, and I think that’s where it gets really intimate. It’s the most encouraging part…its a rollercoaster” and it ends on an encouraging note for others. It’s a song that I feel captures the essence of what Brianna hopes to do with her music; uplift and inspire people.
