A Beginners Guide to Essential Oils

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

I recently went to an event for my sorority hosted by the Health and Wellness Center here at UConn. I thought the event would be another lengthy, boring lecture on how to maintain your health. However, to my surprise, I found that the purpose of the event was to learn all about the benefits of essential oils. I had never used essential oils before this, and was confused as to what an oil could do for my health. As it turned out, oils can actually have many health benefits depending on how you use them. Here is a guide on how to use different types of essential oils!

Citrus:

When you need to start your day, smelling citrus can actually cause you to become more alert and energized!

Tea Tree:

This essential oil helps with face, hair, and nails. Applying tea tree oil can promote hair and nail growth, as well as get rid of redness and acne on the face.

Peppermint:

When studying for a test and then taking the test, smelling peppermint can actually trigger your memory.

Lavender:

The properties in lavender help to soothe the body, and can prompt sleeping. Put a drop or two on your pillow for a great night’s sleep!
