Name: Avi Ghosh
Year: Sophomore, graduating in 2014
Major: Economics
Hometown:  New Delhi, India/ Baltimore, Maryland

1) What are you involved in on campus?

I am Treasurer of McMahon, own my own franchise, work for res life and I am in the boxing club.

2) What kind of franchise do you own and what are your responsibilities?

I own an exterior painting franchise that’s based in Chesire and Hamden. I have to hire my own painters, site managers and I have to operate the franchise myself.  I need to build a team for next semester so I am currently in the process of looking out for good potential workers, besides my other priorities involving the internship. I also will be in charge of my own finances which I will also have to allocate to my workers in the form of wages, bonuses, supply costs etc. I am currently also involved in networking in other capable university students who might be able to run their own franchise like me.

3) What is your number one priority?

My number one priority is to do well in school. A lot of scholarships that I currently receive from the university and the state depend on how well I do in school. So pretty obviously I take no chances when it comes to academics. Besides that, doing well in school will also help my credibility as a business manager.

4) How do you manage to juggle a job, activities, classes, and owning a franchise?

I manage my busy schedule by planning ahead of time, and setting my priorities straight. You need a balance between your social life and your school. Having a balance in life makes me happy and I think that plays a big part in my success. Being far sighted about life also makes me help make decisions in the present.

5) What advice can you give to someone who is interested in business?

My advice to someone who is interested in business is to be social, come out of their comfort zones and make new friends.  Have good arguments to back up your point of view when talking to people. Opportunities will come your way if you are good at what you do.
