7 Halloween Costumes You Already Have in Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

So it’s almost time to put on your wicked Halloween costume and have some ghoulish fun.  The problem?  You don’t have a clue what to wear…  You’ve searched high and low, but nothing seems to make you (or your bank account) happy.  The answer to your prayers is here.  We’ve brainstormed a few ensembles that are spooky good – and straight from your bedroom closet.

1. Cowgirl

You’ll be wanted dead or alive wearing this little number.  All it takes is your favorite button down shirt (bonus points for flannel), a pair of jeans, and boots.  Throw your hair into some pigtail braids and instantly you’re a sweet, Southern honey.

2. Black Cat

Don’t cross my path!  A soft black top, black pants or skirt, and black shoes create the illusion of a sleek feline.  Use eyeliner to make a nose, whiskers, and your best cat-eye.  If you don’t have a pair of cat ears already, you can top the look off with a black headband with felt or construction paper ears.

3. Decades Chick

With this look you can go grunge or girly.  For 90s rocker grunge, wear Converse, ripped jeans, white socks, a concert tee, and a flannel.  Tease your hair a bit (think F.R.I.E.N.D.S, not Saved By the Bell).  Don’t forget to load on the black eyeliner for an extra punk look.  A plastic black choker completes the costume.  For an 80s Valley girl feel, dig out your jelly bracelets, denim skirt, and neon everything.  Load on the hairspray and fishnets. Tie your hair up in the highest side pony you can manage and get on out that door, chica.

4. Super Sports Fan

If you or any family member has a favorite sports team, there’s bound to be team merch lying around somewhere.  Put on your favorite ball cap, jersey, tall socks, sneaks and you’re ready.  Paint some eye black on your cheeks and you’ll knock this costume out of the park.

5. Wednesday Addams

Looking for something a bit more on the dark side? Wear your LBD, black tights, and black shoes.  Put your hair in twin braids and do your makeup dark and witchy.  Try dotting on some freckles or a frighteningly bold red lip.  Let your inner ghoul come out to play.

6. Teacher

Fast forward to the future you that holds a college degree and lesson plans.  A crisp button down blouse or sweater with a pencil or a-line skirt and a pair of heels gives off a professional vibe.  Wear a pair of thick rimmed glasses tonight and curl your hair or put it in a cute up-do.

7. Rosie the Riveter

Who doesn’t love some good ol’ fashioned girl power?  Put on a chambray denim top, black leggings, and combat boots.  Tie a red bandana in your pinned up curled hair and this costume is sure to be a victory.

These costumes are sure to be a hit no matter what kind of Halloweekend festivities you take part in.  Have a scary good time, and stay safe!
