5 Reasons To Travel After Graduation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Graduating college is one of the most exciting and rewarding times in your life.  As graduation approaches, many seniors are getting ready to take the next step in their lives.  Whether it be going to grad school or starting your career, it’s important to take some time for yourself before diving into the “real world.”  Here are a few reasons why you should take some time off after graduation to travel:

Finding the time to travel will become more difficult

Let’s face it, once you get a job and settle down in the real world of working, there will be limited vacation time to adventure and explore places you’ve always wanted to go.  The grace period between the time you graduate and the time you start working is the perfect opportunity to pack up and go explore everything the world has to offer.

Traveling can be a time for self-reflection

We spend our entire youth going to school to learn and develop skills and knowledge that will help us succeed in the “real world” upon graduation.  However, very little of that time is used for self-learning.  What better way to work on self-reflection than traveling to a destination where you can explore and find your place in life.

Puts life in perspective

Much of our life is spent going through the same routine day in and day out.  Taking the time to explore the world allows you to get out of that routine and gain an understanding and respect for other cultures and places.  Sometimes we need to take a moment to realize there’s more to life than just the small bubble we live in.

Add adventure to your life

If you spent your entire life going on family vacations to the same destinations year after year, there’s a thrill about taking a trip to an exotic location you’ve always wanted to go to but never had the opportunity to see.

Open up yourself to a world of opportunities

Although you may think you have your life after graduation all planned out, travelling can open you up to a world of opportunities.  You never know what people you might meet or opportunities you might discover when you step out of your comfort zone and explore the world.
