This summer, French Girl straw bags, scarves, and linen shirts took the East Coast by storm. But now that the fall semester is upon us, it’s time to trade our Birkenstocks and bikinis for loafers, blazers, and comfy chic cardigans. Because if anyone has mastered fall fashion, it’s the French.

Below, I’ve compiled a list of 10 fall must-haves inspired from the street styles of French influencers, actresses, and models. Happy shopping!

1) Loafers

Loafers can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. They’re a comfortable alternative to platforms or heels. They look great with tights, no show socks, or ankle socks — like the ones @matildadjerf wears above. Opt for my favorite pair of sleek, comfortable Sam Edelman Loraine Bit Loafers. They’re easy to break in and resist creasing. I can walk in them for hours without any discomfort. Or, check out a chunkier pair of loafers here.

2) Lace-up oxfords

Oxfords tend to be more expensive than most loafers, and you can find them heeled or flat. The laced style adds a cool touch of masculinity and formality to any outfit. You can wear them with comfy socks to dress them down or black tights to dress them up. Check out the Oxford Shoe from Olive and these Dr. Marten’s.

3) The blazer

Blazers of all colors, materials, and patterns have long been a major item in every French girl’s closet. As the weather cools down, I recommend checking out cozier, wool blend blazers like the one worn above by @sabinasocool. Blazers in blue, green, and maroon can add a pop of color to your outfit. Or, stick with black, grey, and beige to help create a capsule wardrobe. You can find blazers of all fabrics (tweed, corduroy, wool, linen) from sites like Abercrombie, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M. Check out both the Mango outlet and regular site for quality clothing at affordable prices.

4) Trench coat

Ah, the beloved trench coat — another French closet staple. Trench coats come in all different lengths and colors, though beige is a classic. Trench coats can elevate something as simple as a basic T-shirt and jeans. To find trench coats of all styles for a decent price, check out sites like Mango, Nordstrom Rack, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

5) Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks are often overlooked in favor of other necklines, but there’s something chic and elegant about them. It’s easy to layer them with trench coats and blazers. This fall, turtlenecks and can be found fitted, loose, cropped, and as bodysuits. Plus, @wendyswan is seriously fashion goals in her black turtleneck, blazers, and loafers.

6) Cardigans

Cardigans look great tucked into pants, shrugged off one shoulder, and cropped. They’re super versatile and can be reworn multiple times with denim, leather, and skirts to create different outfits. Essentially, they’re the ultimate capsule wardrobe staple. Check out Mango, Everlane, and Madewell. Also, Sezane is an expensive but quality French option.

7) knitted dresses and knee boots

Looking for something to wear on your next date? Or for dinner and drinks with the girls? Knitted dresses of all lengths are great for colder fall and winter weather. They tend to be fitted and super flattering. @annelauremais looks effortlessly cool in her knit dress, black tights, and trench coat. She elevated the look with black knee boots, another French girl favorite. Check out more dresses at Reformation.

8) High-waisted trousers

Tired of rotating between the same two pairs of jeans?Trousers have been popping up everywhere, including this pair from Princess Polly, these from Cider, and a wide-legged pair from Banana Republic. They tend to be super comfortable and loose-fitting at the legs. And did you notice how @wendyswan styled her grey trousers with the cutest turtleneck?

9) White sneakers

Last but not least…

White sneakers are versatile, comfortable, and sleek. They go with everything — wear them this fall with pants, skirts, or dresses. For an expensive option, try the Veja V-12 Leather White. For a more budget-friendly option, try Adidas Stan Smith’s.
