It’s no surprise that Edgar was crowned “Top Human” in this quarter’s campus-wide Humans Versus Zombies game. With virtually unrivaled passion, Edgar tackled the game with the same enthusiasm that has arguably made him one of UChicago’s most spirited and involved students.

The list of commitments goes on and on. From coordinating programs in Splash! to volunteering with Alpha Phi Omega, Edgar’s community service record shows his dedication to making the campus a better place for students, visitors, and staff alike. Alper House in Max East has also benefitted immensely from his contributions as House President, while his position as one of the two Max Palevsky Scav captains will be of great help come Spring Quarter. To top it off, Edgar also spends his days tutoring chemistry students for the Chicago Academic Achievement Program and his recent appointment as a campus tour guide will entail spreading his campus spirit to an even wider audience.

When asked about the sheer number of his on-campus commitments, Edgar points out how quickly college life goes by. “Even though you have four years here, those four years aren’t going to last very long. Everything passes by so quickly and the best way to get the most out of your college experience is to be involved in as many aspects as you can.”

“There’s going to be a time when these opportunities aren’t available to you anymore, so college is almost a last chance for you to have fun and participate in every one of your interests.”

Edgar’s heavy involvement in UChicago’s activities has also allowed him to uncover all facets of campus life, leading him to love the campus more and more. For Edgar, the best part about UChicago is how welcome everyone is and how determined they are to find new things to be passionate about, no matter where they’re from.

“We don’t all share the same interests, but we do all have the same opportunity to get involved and discover,” explains Edgar. “It doesn’t matter if it’s community service, games, or another activity, I love spreading my passion for things and I find that here, people’s enthusiasm makes it so easy.”

Since his first year Edgar has never stopped doing just that. This has resulted in him making a wide array of friends and a large pool of connections as well.

“I think if there’s one thing college has really taught me to do, it’s how to network,” he says. “Once you get to know a lot of people around campus, you can just facilitate things because you always have the resources to do it. Connecting with people is a huge thing, and I promise you I learn much more from working with people than I do from OChem.”

This focus on interpersonal interactions has made Edgar a familiar face all over campus. His zest for life, community spirit, and dedication to the University are well-known and respected by his peers.

What’s next on Edgar’s list, you ask?

“I’d love to become an RA, and I’m still in the application process for that,” he answers with a big smile. “I’m basically looking for different ways to get to know people and figuring out how I can show them all the possibilities that can be found on this campus.”
