Hold on to your hats, count your pennies, and get ready for Sigma Chi’s 2nd Annual Derby Days!

This week, watch and cheer on as UChicago’s sororities compete for Derby Day greatness. With the help of their Sig Chi Derby Daddies and fellow sisters, university sororities will dance, fund-raise, and hat snatch their way to a grand prize worth 10% of all proceeds raised during the week.

Where will the other 90% go? The Huntsman Cancer Foundation. While Derby Days is a competition between sororities, the entire event serves as Sig Chi’s official national fundraiser, with proceeds going to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network. The fraternity raises over $2 million annually for their philanthropies, with UChicago’s own Sig Chi chapter joining in on the frenzy last year when the first Derby Days week was held.

The goal this year? $15,000 for charity, with $1,500 going to the winning sorority for use in their own philanthropic work. Through a whole series of lively and interactive activities all slated for this week, UChicago’s Sig Chi brothers hope to rally the campus community for a week of fun, all for a good cause.

So who will take home the Derby Days crown this year? Will DG reign as champions once more, or will last year’s runner-up AOII claim the prize? Perhaps it will be Theta, perhaps it will be aKDPhi. Or will newcomer Pi Beta Phi surprise all and top the podium? No one knows, but there is no doubt that this year’s Derby Days will be just as spirited and frenzied as the last.
