Tonight, acclaimed poet, Boonaa Mohammed, will be visiting UChicago as a part of the Muslim Student Association’s Fast-A-Thon. The Fast-A-Thon, which began this morning, asked students to refrain from eating starting at dawn to sunset in support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. For each student that signed up to participate, an outside donation was made to the Oxfam East African Famine Relief. Thus, tonight, 5:30 p.m. to be exact, individuals who partook in the fast will break it together at the International House where they will not only feast on delicious food but will also have the opportunity to listen to Boonaa Mohammed.

Boonaa Mohammed, a Muslim poet originally hailing from Canada, has been featured on TEDx Toronto and won the “Best New Artist” award at the 2007 CBC Poetry Face-Off. He has spread his poetry to a large audience through the internet, particularly with YouTube videos. His videos have received a total of over 2 million views and evoke his views on global issues. You can watch his TEDx performance, titled “Kill Them with Love” here:

If you’d like to see Boonaa Mohammed or simply want to be a part of a charitable event, go to the event tonight at I-House at 5:30 p.m.
