Pi Beta Phi Flying 55 Girls Strong

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

After an arduous five months of spreading the word about Pi Phi, the Illinois Kappa chapter of Pi Beta Phi has officially colonized at UChicago. With a total of 55 new members, Pi Phi celebrated their colonization on February 10, 2013.  They have been working to colonize since mid-September and their success is definitely celeb-worthy!

The formal sorority recruitment process has proven beneficial for sororities across the nation. One weekend dedicated to fraternizing with and receiving exorbitant amounts of love from the girls of various sororities on campus is a great way to gain members. However, with an informal recruitment process, Pi Phi experienced a few problems getting girls to join along the way.

With the help of a passionate expansion leader and great girls who knew Pi Phi was the choice for them from the beginning, the newest sorority on campus is here to stay! Throwing their sign of a halo and wings to score the perfect photo-op while wearing wine and silver blue, this diverse group of girls have all come together for a great reason.

“I am looking forward to getting to know more people on campus and connecting with them in a different way than I would have before joining Pi Phi,” says 2nd year Dimitra Katsis who is serving as interim social chair before official Pi Phi elections.

Pi Beta Phi is an awesome addition to the UChicago Greek community. Many students are looking forward to what this organization will bring to UChicago and of course the exciting new opportunities to help Pi Phi’s philanthropy. Make a few new friends by saying hi to this week’s campus celebrities, the sisters of Pi Phi, when you see them around campus!
