I first started listening to Solange in a few years ago; ‘A Seat at the Table’ was a beautiful combination of all my favourite types of music, but simultaneously unlike anything I had ever heard before. I needed more.

But there seemed to be none forthcoming.

Until a few days ago.

With a series of posts on Instagram Solange announced her new album, ‘When I Get home‘.

2016’s ‘A Seat at the Table’ firmly established her ability to create rich musical landscapes; tying together elements of soul, jazz and R’n’B is something she does seamlessly. ‘When I Get home’ is similiar in that way, but its roots are more firmly planty planted in jazz music. Elements of electronic music also feature more strongly in this album, and all the production is tied together with her signature lullaby-like vocals.

Her lyrics are often playful and always raw. It’s a of celebration of womanhood and blackness that you can’t help but appreciate.
