My Favourite Holiday Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Alberta chapter.

One of the best things about the holidays, hands-down is all of the different treats that are available at this time of year. From home-baked to store-bought, these are some of the different desserts and snacks that are my favorite to have during this time of year. I definitely recommend trying them for yourself if you are a fiend for sweets.

Gingerbread Men

Gingerbread men are a Christmas staple during this time of the year. Not only is gingerbread the perfect holiday cookie but it can be used in different versatile ways, from gingerbread houses to men. Whether it is homemade, from a kit, or from a bake shop like Milk and Cookies or Bon Ton Bakery, gingerbread is one of the best holiday treats.

Butter Tarts

One of my favourite homemade holiday treats are definitely butter tarts. Growing up they were a holiday tradition that my mother always made large stockpiles of and they are one of my favourite childhood memories from growing up.

Sugar Cookies

Even though sugar cookies are a treat consumed year round, for some reason they always taste 100 times better around the holidays. It is always so much fun to hang out with a couple of girlfriends in the evening and have a cookie decorating party while having a holiday movie marathon.

Christmas Oranges

I know these aren’t desserts but they are one of my favourite treats that you can only get at Christmas time that I couldn’t help but to include in this list. They are the perfect snack and are small enough that you can throw in your bag while you are on the go. Not to mention they are a healthy alternative after eating one-too-many gingerbread men.

Chocolate-Dipped Licorice

To be honest anything chocolate-dipped is absolutely delicious, and licorice is no exception. They make the perfect gifts for friends and family, and they also allow you to express your creativity when it comes to the different toppings you use to decorate them.
