Making the Most Out of Your Quarantine: Fun Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Alberta chapter.

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve started practicing social distancing and let’s face it, most of us are

getting bored at home. While maintaining social distancing is imperative right now, there are still ways

we can entertain ourselves at home. Here are a few suggested activities you can try out from the

comfort (or discomfort) of your own home.

Though the majority of us students are in the final lap of the semester and gearing up for finals, the last

thing most of us probably want to do is more learning. However, if there is a time to learn anything new

or invest time into achieving a goal, now would be the time! Practicing a new language while in

quarantine is an great use of time AND it’s one more thing to not only add to your resume, but also show

off once emerging from quarantine.

Another activity you can take up is baking. There are tons of recipes for cookies, pastries, cakes,

brownies and much more online, take your pick! Or, explore the realm of coffee and try your hand at

various caffeinated creations! As an avid coffee drinker, I’m super excited to try making whipped coffee

and iced caramel macchiatos. Both baking and coffee making are a good way to invest some time into in

order to create a tasty snack for you and your housemates- if you’re willing to share, that is! Name

something better than learning a new skill that you can eat afterwards, I’ll wait.

Another fun activity to take up would be painting. I, an inexperienced, unartistic painter, found this

particular activity to not only be the most fun, but also therapeutic. If you’re new to painting, a good tip

is to start out with a simple image, one that you can either sketch out prior to painting or even just copy

off Google. Or, you could forget those templates and just freehand it and paint whatever the heck you

want!

Anyways, I hope this is enough of a list to uplift your spirits for the next couple weeks, but there’s more

to come! You can definitely catch me trying out these activities while bingewatching Netflix. Don’t forget

to stay socially connected with one another and try to remain optimistic during this crazy time!
