A Very Spooky Watchlist

My favorite season is finally here. The weather is finally changing, the pumpkin patches are opening, and the spookiness is increasing! It’s the perfect opportunity to curl up on the couch in a blanket while watching a scary movie to keep me sane. Here are some movies I’ll definitely be watching this October that you should stream too!

Scream

“What’s your favorite scary movie?” Mine actually happens to be Scream (1996)! It’s in my Letterboxd top four after a close battle with Halloween (1978). After many rewatches, I declared it as my favorite slasher film because of its incredible cinematography, legendary dialogue, and characters that you just can’t help but love despite their murderous tendencies. Ghostface is such a classic killer that keeps you on the edge of your seat every time he (or she) appears on screen. I love the entire series, and can’t wait to watch it all over again.

Halloween

As I mentioned previously, Halloween is the runner-up as my favorite horror film of all-time! I love the nostalgia it brings me of watching it at my grandma’s house while hiding behind my mom when I was a little girl. I watch it ever so bravely now, and my mom still loves it too. I think Michael Myers is the one killer who keeps me in suspense, because how are you still alive? And how are you catching up to the person running when you’re walking? I don’t know, but he’s creepy! I prefer the older movies than the ones from 2018 and later, but the entire series is for sure on my watch list. Why celebrate Halloween without watching Halloween?!

Terrifier

Please don’t hate me, but I absolutely love this disgustingly gory trilogy. I have a love-hate relationship with Art the Clown, because he’s super silly and scary, but since he’s super scary, he’s resided in my nightmares before. A lot of people think these movies are just slop, but I do enjoy certain shock-factors and prop blood all over my screen. I get that it’s not for everyone to see characters dying in the worst way possible, but I will be tuned in 100%.

Friday the 13th

I put Michael on the list, so I must put Jason. The iconic masks that give you the chills every Halloween season and their endless installments must be displayed on your television ASAP! It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time to appreciate the spooky Camp Crystal Lake classic, so I will be sat and snuggled up soon.

Nightmare On Elm Street

I’ve been sleeping on these movies for way too long. Haha… get it? I can’t even remember the last time that Freddy Krueger was on my screen terrorizing people in their slumber. It’ll be like I’m watching it for the first time again. I’m a little nervous, because as much as I love horror movies, I do love to sleep as much as possible. Maybe Mr. Krueger will spare me because I’m kind and pure of heart (and I’ll compliment his sweater).

Final Destination

Why go about your life normally when you can watch these movies and then be anxious 24/7? I love how insane these movies get. Planes, rollercoasters, logging trucks, and pool drains have always and will always make me proceed with caution. These movies that have traumatized several generations will forever be on my list of favorites. I can’t wait to watch them this season and pass the generational trauma onto my friends who haven’t seen it. Happy Halloween, am I right?

Don’t worry for all you scaredy cats out there. Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, and Coraline will also be getting logged on my Letterboxd this October. I’m just a girl who loves her horror genre, but I promise anything with Halloween vibes will be getting their time with me. Give me all the Halloween and spooky content in the world this fall!
