I often find myself overwhelmed by school work, friend drama, or overall stress whilst on campus. That being either cooped up in my dorm room or huddled up in the B school. Being from New York City, there were a lot of options to choose from when I need to clear my head and take a break from my usual environment. I have found that living and attending a school all on one campus can make life seem a tad repetitive and “trapped” at times, so here are some ideas and places to go when you just need a clear head and break from college campus life.

1. Take a walk around Audubon

My main go-to at home was sticking my headphones in, running a classic One Direction album on Spotify (I know, lame), and aimlessly walking around my neighborhood in the city. Now, I have found that walking (or god forbid jogging) around Audubon park is a good change of pace when I just need to isolate myself from my worries and take a walk in a place that I am unfamiliar with.

2. Take another walk to a cafe

Again, I find walking with headphones and jamming out alone to be the best medicine when you just need to blow off some steam. But this time, end it with some food and coffee! My favorite places to take a stroll to alone are, Satsuma, Humble Bagel (before 1:00 pm obviously), or Mojo. These three places have some good food and some good coffee to snack on!

3. Hop on the streetcar

Once, when I walked all the way to Gibson and then realized that my class had been canceled, I did not know what to do with myself but I knew that I did not want to go back to my dorm and study. So, I just walked over to the streetcar stop, hopped on, and then rode it down to a familiar location. I then walked up and down Magazine Street, grabbed an acai bowl from Raw Republic, and came back to campus. This experience is something I always think of when I want to brag about New Orleans to people because I truly believe that it represents the freedom and opportunity of the city. So, when you have nothing to do, just hop on the streetcar and see where it takes you!

I hope these tips help you when you need to take a break from campus life! Have fun and take care of yourself! :)
