Now, if you’re anything like me, throughout your entire childhood you were constantly told by every parent, teacher, or adult, that you were a bookworm. And that needed to get your head out of your book and explore the real world. Well, unfortunately we all grew up and got busy with school, sports, friends, and whatever else. I can’t exactly pinpoint the moment in my life when I stopped reading a book or two a week. Maybe it was towards the end of middle school? Or maybe it was when sixth grade started? From that moment on, whenever it was, I became swept up in the whirlwind of life and I didn’t have the time to sit down and read a book that I genuinely liked, rather than a book that was assigned in English class. But I’m here to tell you to take a break from academic life and read some seriously brilliant books that I personally recommend. And they are the perfect books to get you back into your reading phase.

  1. Writers and Lovers by Lily King
  2. Just Kids by Patti Smith
  3. Love and Fury: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft
  4. Creatures by Crissy Van Meter
  5. The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
  6. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Path
  7. Girls of a Certain Age by Maria Adelmann

Or maybe you’re into more murder/mystery type of books. Well, you’re in luck. I’ve got a list of recommendations for those too.

  1. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
  2. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
  3. The French Girl by Lexie Elliott
  4. The Girl in the Ice by Robert Brynzda
  5. The Likeness by Tana French
  6. The Secret Place by Tana French
  7. Police by Jo Nesbo
