Since the first Super Bowl in 1967, Philadelphia Eagles fans everywhere have hoped that we could one day take home the Lombardi Trophy. Year after year, injuries, bad luck, and bad records all led to yet another disappointment until the Eagles finally had their chance last Sunday. With the chance for a rematch of their last Super Bowl appearance in 2005 against the New England Patriots, the Eagles headed into Super Bowl LII with the odds against them, but pretty much the entire country on their side. As a Philadelphia sports fan, this was a chance that I had been waiting for and I planned on supporting the Eagles from more than one thousand miles away, but I didn’t know how many other people planned on supporting the birds. All over campus and social media I saw people in green ready to cheer the Eagles on to a Super Bowl win, which luckily ended up happening brightening the lives of so many Eagles fans (and “anyone but the Patriots” fans) across the country.

Following the win, as anyone could have predicted from the reaction of Philadelphia fans after the last Eagles win against the Vikings, Philadelphians stormed Broad Street, climbed poles, and jumped off of awnings in excitement for the win. My friends who were there say that the energy was unbelievable as everyone was shouting “GO BIRDS!” and making friends with anyone on the street as the whole crowd shared in the amazing feeling that St. Nick Foles and the amazing Eagles brought to Philadelphia. From losing Carson Wentz, to consistently being an underdog, to having to go up against Tom Brady, the Eagles had more to overcome than any other team did, but, in a way, I think that is what made the victory so sweet. The team that no one thought would make it through the playoffs won the whole thing and the city of Philadelphia couldn’t be any prouder!
