This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Odyssey Ball, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the New Orleans museum of art.
Here, along with the museum’s top patrons, I encountered the Fluorescent Room–an exhibit donated to the NOMA by Louisiana-native artist Keith Sonnier. To create this display, he organized rubber blocks covered in fluorescent powder in a blacklight-lit room. The idea of audience participation is at the foundation of this piece. It is expected that each person who enters the room will change the room in some way. It was definitely a sight to see spectators in ball gowns walking through a room covered in glowing powder!
