Meet the New Gorilla Troop at Audubon Zoo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Recently, Audubon zoo welcomed a new gorilla troop in order to boost the population of the Western Lowland Gorilla. The troop now includes Alafia, a 27-year-old female, Naku, her daughter, Okpara, a silverback male, Tumani, an 11-year-old female, and Praline, a 22-year-old female. The Western Lowland gorilla is the most widespread gorilla species however, due to poaching they have become endangered. The Gorilla Species survival plan tracks down different gorillas based on their genes and environments to ensure that their personalities all blend well together. Each gorilla has such a distinct personality that they basically act like human. As a result, going to see these gorillas interact with each other is definitely a sight worth seeing.
