Her Campus Placeholder Avatar
Catherine Combs Student Contributor, Tulane University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

The Her Campus Tulane team has 6 Executive Board Members. Cat Combs, Nina Helfman, Alyssa Conti, Megan Lehr, Brynn Ruriani, and Elyse Toplin work hard to ensure that Her Campus Tulane has not only produced great photos and articles but also to ensure that we do it with a unique flair.
These ladies hold different positions so to better spread awareness about the online magazine, produce the online magazine, and partner with members in the Tulane and New Orleans communities.

Alyssa: Editorial/Opinion Editor: –She is in charge of blogs, review blogs and provide feedback about blog ideas and content.

Alyssa Contiis a junior from Belton, Texas. She is studying English with minors in Sociology and Psychology.
Her current career plan includes a four-year commitment to the Marines, then after that, who knows what life will bring her… Alyssa is currently the Editorial/Opinion Editor for Her Campus Tulane and also writes the blog “Alyssa’s Loves and Loathes.” Alyssa joined the Her Campus Tulane team because she “thought it would be a great opportunity to really get involved in the Tulane Community and also to get my writing out there for the world to see.”  If she could be an item of clothing, she would be either a Steve Madden or Carlos Santana stiletto. A fun fact about Alyssa: “Oh there are so may to choose from. I’m in NROTC here at Tulane so there’s a fun fact. As far as a silly story or embarrassing moment is concerned, once I was walking out of Tucks, completely sober but in 6-inch heels, and fell all the way from the top step to the street – complete with face-plant and bloody knee. The bouncers were shouting to my friends how they needed to get me home like right then because we had been talking about going to Maple Street and their drunken selves just yelled back “She’s sober a**hole. It was mortifying.”

Brynn: Marketing/Recruitment Chair:– She is in charge of flyers, creating facebook events, write-ups to run in Newcomb News and other places. These things will be used for recruitment.

Brynn Ruriani is a junior at Tulane studying International Relations, Latin American Studies and Business with interests in the fields of public relations and public affairs. In her spare time, Brynn is a member of Tulane’s Undergraduate Latin American Studies Organization (TULASO), serves as the Public Relations Chair for Phi Mu, and both the fashion blogger and Marketing Director for Her Campus Tulane. In addition to fashion and journalism, Brynn has a passion for human rights, especially with regards to Latin America and immigration, and would love to work with a non-profit organization in the future.

Elyse: Outreach/Expansion Chair: – She works with agents outside of Her Campus Tulane/ Her Campus to establish partnerships for events, programs, projects, etc.

Elyse Toplin is a junior from Potomac, MD. She serves as the Outreach and Expansion Chair for Her Campus Tulane, and is working to start a mentoring program with a local high school in New Orleans that will focus on journalism and communications.
Elyse originally joined Her Campus Tulane because she loves Her Campus and wanted to work on a different type of writing in addition to what she did for the newspaper, but loves what her role has grown into, and is excited to work with Her Campus to make a positive impact in New Orleans. She wrote for Tulane’s campus newspaper, The Hullabaloo, for three years, and served as the chief copy editor during her junior year. She is also active in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta.  Elyse is an avid runner, and completed her first half marathon in February. She’ll be running her second one in May, and her third in October with her two best friends from high school who she recently convinced to get back into running. She also loves going to concerts in New Orleans, exploring the city, and trying new restaurants. If she could be any item of clothing, it would be the pair of skinny jeans that are perfectly broken in and always look good on you. Elyse is studying political science and international development at Tulane, and hopes to go to graduate school for either law or public health. She hopes to pursue a career in public policy or advocacy.

Megan: Photography Editor– She’s the person who collects, reviews, and chooses photos for publication in alignment with preset guidelines, also in charge of assigning photographers to photograph different stories and provides feedback about photos.

Megan Lehr is a junior from Royse City, Texas. She is a Philosphy of Law major with minors in Classics and Economics. Her career goal is to become a health care lawyer.  Megan is in charge of the Campus Cutie weekly article and she is also the Photography Editor for Her Campus Tulane. Megan joined the Her Campus Tulane team because she “really wanted to be apart of something full time for the women on campus. I do the Vagina Monologues, and I wanted a way to capture that camaraderie year round. I also love photography and I love having it on my to-do list every week! ” If she could be an item of clothing it would be “Lacy panties. I have an obsession with them. I just love feeling sexy, even when no one can see them. It just makes me feel confident and powerful.” A silly fact about Megan: she lives near Chuck Norris!

Nina: News Editor– Nina is our point person for news on campus. She assists in assigning stories, updates writers on what is happening on campus, ensure that someone is covering the campus celeb, campus cutie, weekly poll, campus event, spotted on campus photo blog, campus story features every week.

Nina Helfmanis a sophomore Political Economy major here at Tulane. She is from a small town in New Jersey so New Orleans winters are one of the many things that brought her down south. Another thing that drew her here is Tulane’s many study abroad opportunities, which she will be taking full advantage of in the fall. Nina plans on studying in Buenos Aires next Semester and she could not be more excited. Along with being News Editor, Nina also writes her own articles here and there i about cool upcoming events. She joined the Her Campus Tulane team because  she wanted to get back to journalism because she really enjoyed in middle and high school. “The blog is great because it really gives me the opportunity to write articles about things I’m into and helps keep me on top of campus events. Speaking of articles, if I were an article of clothing, I would have to be jean shorts. These are my New Orleans staple as I wear them to class with a t-shirt or dress them up with a pair of heels to go out at night.” If you want to find Nina, she can most likely be located at the Boot/Palms, taking notes in class, snagging a booth at PJ’s or lying out at the Fly.

Cat: Campus Correspondent & Editor-in-Chief– She is in charge of and responsible for strategic and operational planning-the magazine’s “direction”, enforces policies and deadlines, sets the publication standards for performance, as well as for motivating and developing the staff.

Cat Combs is a student at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. She is a Communications & Linguistics double major with a minor in Political Science. Cat loves New Orleans and all the different scenes that this dynamic city has to offer. When not searching for the final touches to her latest outfit idea, she can be found exploring the city and finding new places to eat, shop, or visit. One of her favorite things to do when back on her family farm in Virginia, is to get up early on a sunny day and sit on her porch with a good book, a cup of coffee and her cats and dogs. Cat has always had a soft spot for books, writing, and anything Chanel, which is why she became the Campus Correspondent for Tulane. If Cat were an article of clothing she’d be a leather jacket.
A fun fact about Cat: like most cats she has a fear of dogs chasing her.

These ladies are truly passionate about their work with Her Campus Tulane. “I just wanted there to be a place for Tulane women to express themselves and get their writing out there,” Cat Combs said. It is important for voices to be heard and hopefully through this online magazine we can get a glimpse of what it truly is like to be a woman at Tulane University.

Catherine Combs is a Tulane University Alumna, who majored in Communications and Political Science. She  has always had a soft spot for books, writing, and anything Chanel. When not searching for the final touches to her latest outfit idea, she can be found reading.
