Tulane is incredibly music oriented. Take, for instance, the fact that the school features local bands on the LBC quad every Friday afternoon. Not to mention the fact that I’ve almost come to expect to hear the Green Wave Brass Band playing in the LBC during the week. Let’s face it, when you’re in New Orleans, there is no escapin’ the music fusion. But who says that’s a bad thing? To incorporate more music into your life, start by listening to this week’s lineup:

1.) Bonfire – Childish Gambino

Somehow this song managed escape the dreaded “explicit” labeling, and I’m not complaining. Who is Childish Gambino exactly? If you have ever tuned into NBC’s Community, you may recognize him as community college student Troy Barnes. He is also a writer for The Daily Show and NBC’s 30 Rock. Oh yea, and his name is actually Donald Glover. Kind of amazing.

2.) Lucky Now – Ryan Adams (Ashes & Fire)

It should be a requirement that everyone listen to this song at least once. Ryan Adams is one of those musicians who is just as good at playing acoustic guitar as singing the actual song. I don’t know how, but “Lucky Now” strikes and emotional cord with me and probably will with you, too.

3.) Midnight City – M83 (Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.)

Let’s face it, most electronic music needs to stay at the rave. This song, however, is the exception. M83 (named after the spiral galaxy, Messier 83) is a one-man band by French musician Anthony Gonzalez. More than likely
you have never heard of him, but that hopefully will be quick to change. He’s already made sixe albums, so you are bound to like something of his.

4.) Colours – Grouplove (Never Trust a Happy Song)

This band was just formed last year, and they have already produced an awesome album (and awesome music videos to go with it; check them out on YouTube). As far as who Grouplove actually is, though, that shall remain
a mystery (virtually no information has been released about them (probably since they are still new?)). Nonetheless, this song will pump you up, there’s no denying.

5.) Unaware – Allen Stone (Allen Stone)

Pop this song on, take a seat, curl up with a big cup of hot coco, and chilllllllllll. Of course, even if you don’t follow these instructions, I guarantee you will be about five times less stressed out after playing this song than
you were before playing it. Allen Stone is one of those people that you may find playing at a local coffee house (when musicians actually did that). In a nutshell, this song is just plain cool.
