Sick of Netflix and Hulu? Amazon Prime causing you problems? What about HBO and Starz, have you finished the two good shows each of those channels has to offer? Well, you’re in luck. Disney +, the Disney corporations new streaming service was just released last week. After having time to peruse I have thoughts on the service comparatively to other streaming services.

Disney + only costs as much as a Hulu monthly subscription, or 6.99. Netflix, without any add ons, is 9.00 dollars a month, which is already a 2 dollar increase monthly from the Disney + price.

Now, while some people may believe that Disney + is only Disney TV shows and movies, it’s not! Because the Disney corporation is so wide reaching and has deals with various different channels and companies, such as Marvel and ABC Family, Disney + has so much more than you would expect to see. Right off the bat, after perusing the comedy section, I saw my favorite movie of all time, “10 Things I Hate About You”. While comedic and based off of Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew”, this movie adaptation is not for all kids and families. Disney + really does have something for everyone. With rights to the Star Wars franchise, Marvel’s franchise, and agreements with National Geographic, virtually all movies or shows that those companies have had hands in are also on the streaming service. In short, Disney has done what it continues to do best, which is make a service or experience enjoyable for everyone old and young.

In terms of usability, the site is laid out virtually the same way that Netflix is. With generes separated in rows with movie and TV suggestions, and a search bar located in the top right, it would take a Netflix, amazon prime, or Hulu user no time to get used to the website.

Disney, ever being the intelligent corporate monster it is, also invested in making several new Disney Originals that you can only stream from Disney +. The two that have received the most “hype” probably include “High School the Musical The Series”, where the school that High School Musical was filmed in does a production of the show, and then the new live-action “Lady and the Tramp”. Regardless, these two originals alone have allowed Disney to create some excitement surrounding the service.

Coming from a family that has gone to Disney World at least twice a year since the year I was born, I might be biased. I absolutely love the Disney corporation, and I especially love their media and entertainment. After years of struggling to find the perfect Disney movie for every occasion, I now have the world made by the Mouse on a laptop, phone, or tablet.

Just a bubbly blonde from rural Virginia who strives to contribute wholesome content and good vibes! When I'm not doing work for my triple major, you can find me writing and reading in some of my favorite local coffee shops, socializing literally anywhere I run into people I know, or walking the streets of New Orleans in the pursuit of my next "big" thing. An eternal optimist, and an inspired go-getter, I'm always ready to jump in to anything thrown my way. To quote Lady Gaga, I believe that we're all "on the edge of glory".
