New Orleans is the perfect city for fall festivities and Halloween fun. But after a weekend that featured Voodoo Festival, expensive costume preparation, and unfortunate Uber surges, many people (myself included) may find their cash flow on the low. YOU ARE IN LUCK!!!!!! This week, October 29-November 4, is Tulane University’s Homecoming Week. Tidal Wave, Tulane’s Homecoming Committee, is known for giving away some of the best free swag, including t-shirts, trinkets, and most importantly, FOOD. “Come TUgether,” this year’s theme, reflects our appreciation of the Tulane community’s unity and spirit throughout the city of New Orleans. In this current era of divisiveness and skepticism, we want to celebrate our shared experience as Tulanians with the entire city. This is my third and final year on Tidal Wave (**cries**), so I’m breaking down the week for all my fellow seekers of free entertainment and giveaways.

The Lighting of McAlister (10/30 7pm outside of McAlister Auditorium)
This event kicks off Homecoming Week with the presentation of the 2017 Homecoming Court following performances from the Tulane cheerleading team and a cappella groups. Make sure to arrive on time, so you can be the first in line for FREE Raising Cane’s chicken strips and toast and a surprise “Come TUgether” themed giveaway.
2. Tulane Tuesday (10/31 12pm on the Berger Family Lawn aka LBC Quad)
Tidal Wave hosts a series of activities and interactive giveaways on the quad every Tuesday of Homecoming Week to give everyone on campus an opportunity to participate in the festivities! Be sure to stop by for games and street sign printing, as well as tie-dying and a photobooth!
3. Halloweentown (10/31 8pm inside of McAlister Auditorium)
Celebrate Halloween with a classic throwback Disney Channel Original Movie accompanied by FREE POPCORN from Popcorn Bistro and a hoco themed giveaway that you do NOT want to miss. T-SHIRTS WILL BE GIVEN TO TULANE STUDENTS WITH VALID SPLARD!!!
4. Comedy Show (11/1 8pm inside of McAlister Auditorium)
This year’s comedy show (free and open to the public) features Rhea Butcher and Kyle Ayers!! Check out this event for free stand up comedy and the chance to get a free T-SHIRT and surprise giveaway (Tulane Students with valid splash card ONLY).
5. Percentage Night at Blaze Pizza (11/2 3-6pm Blaze Pizza Freret St.)
Pizza for a cause! Tidal Wave gives back to the community this year by hosting a percentage night for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. 20% of your meal cost goes directly to the fund, so Come TUgether for some philanthropic pizza before the Homecoming Concert at 7pm!!
6. Homecoming Concert (11/2 7pm on the Berger Family Lawn)
Jesse McCartney aka your teenage dream performs a concert that is FREE and open to the public!! You also have the option to purchase tickets for a meet-and-greet with Jesse that includes a professional photograph for you to frame and keep forever and ever. WOW.
7. Carnival (11/3 2pm on the Berger Family Lawn)
TGIF with Tidal Wave at our annual carnival (FREE and OPEN to the public)!! Tulane students with a valid splash card receive two food tickets for various food trucks arriving at 5pm. Other food trucks are available to the general public for cash/card transaction at 2pm. This is the last chance to get a free T-SHIRT for students, so don’t miss it!
8. Game Day (11/4 3pm Yulman Stadium)
Tulane takes on Cincinnati in this year’s Homecoming Game. Support your Green Wave and the 2017 Homecoming Court!! The Homecoming King and Queen are crowned at halftime during an on-field presentation. #yasqueen
Lastly, this year Tidal Wave is SELLING a “Come TUgether” t-shirt (slightly different from the free giveaway t-shirt) for those who might miss the chance to score a free tee or for anyone (parents, alumni, students abroad, etc.) who might want to purchase a Homecoming shirt!
