Several colleges are taking to social media to announce that high school students who participate in walk out days or protests will not be penalized in the college admissions process. These announcements follow the Parkland High School shooting, in which 17 students and faculty were killed and several more injured. Students of Parkland immediately started protesting, creating movements such as #NeverAgain. Their calls for stricter gun laws are receiving a lot of media attention and inspiring many to advocate for the same. Though some do not support the movement. A superintendent of a Texas high school stated that students would not be allowed to participate in walk out days:
