Campus Cutie, Abroad Edition: HCT’s Samantha Rosen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

For this week’s Campus Cutie, we headed across the world to Madrid, Spain, where our own writer, Samantha Rosen, is studying abroad this semester! Here’s what Sam had to say about her abroad experience thus far:

1. How are you liking Madrid? What is your favorite part about living there?

I am loving Madrid! It’s such a fun city, and you never run out of things to do. I love living with my friends, the food (cheese and bread with every meal, what could be better?), and exploring all the cool things the city has to offer. Museums, restaurants, shows, nightlife, you name it, and Madrid’s got it.

2. Where have you traveled to and what has been your favorite city?

So far, I’ve been to Barcelona, Geneva, Munich for Oktoberfest, and Amsterdam. This month, I’m going to Rome, London, Florence, and Prague. It’s a tough choice but I think my favorite city has to be Amsterdam. Between the architecture and the canals, I’ve never seen such a pretty city. It’s very relaxed and has a great vibe to it.

3. What has been the most difficult part of living abroad?

I think the most difficult thing about going abroad is the culture shock you experience in the beginning. It’s hard to adjust to being away from your family and friends, learning the ins and outs of a new city, and there’s definitely a language barrier that gets in the way from time to time. It gets a lot easier as time goes on, though!

4. What has been the best part about living abroad?

My favorite thing about being abroad is traveling. I’m a history nerd so I love learning about the cultures and histories of different countries. As much as I love Tulane, it’s been great to get out of the bubble, do new things, and meet different people. But I miss New Orleans and can’t wait to be back!
