Campus Celebrity: Cheyenne Ligon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Name: Cheyenne Ligon

Year: Senior

Major: International Relations with minors in Public Health and International Development

Hometown: Austin, Texas

What are you involved with on campus?

I like to be busy, so I’m involved in lots of things around campus. In addition to writing for Her Campus, I’m also a member of Women in Science, Best Buddies, Alpha Lambda Delta, ODK, and I work in the SOC.

You’re graduating this December heyooo, what are your post-grad plans?

Everything is sort of up in the air right now, but I’m hoping to either teach English abroad or maybe join the Peace Corps. After that, it’s a complete mystery.

What has been your favorite class you’ve taken so far at Tulane?

I think it’s a three-way tie between Contemporary Art History, Middle East Security, and Egypt Under the Pharaohs. They were all so interesting and well-taught!

How is life post-pixie cut? Do you have any tips for people who are scared to take the plunge?

I don’t know if I can fully say I’m living post-pixie quite yet, since I haven’t been able to do a pony tail without copious amounts of bobby pins, but I’m almost there! I loved my short hair, but there’s only so much you can do with it. Also, for people who want to try it out but are too scared?

It grows back, I promise!

If you had to pick one boy band to listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?

Arctic Monkeys. I know what you mean, but I’m cheating. They still count—it’s a band made up of boys.

Celebrity crush?

Jake Gyllenhaal. Jimmy Fallon. And maybe Leonardo DiCaprio circa 1997.

Favorite thing about New Orleans?

The food!

Most embarrassing memory from Tulane?

I don’t know if I have one specific most embarrassing moment that happened at Tulane. Lots of little stuff though. The amount of people on McAlister that have probably seen my butt at some point in time on a windy day is probably fairly high.

What’s something that you wish would come back in style?

Gauchos. Say what you will, but those bad boys were really comfy. If you want to go wayyy back—cloaks. I think it would be awesome to have a cloak.

Most played song on your phone right now?

I don’t want to say Hotline Bling, but I also don’t want to lie.

(sorry Kanye, Drake wins this one)

Where would you go if you had a time machine?

A 1920s speakeasy!

If you could go back and give your freshman-self advice, what would you say and why?

I’d tell myself to quit chemistry wayyyy earlier than I did. It’s okay, self—you didn’t want to be a doctor after all.

If you had to eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Thai food, for sure.

Guilty pleasures?

TLC specials about weird medical conditions. They get me every time.

Something most people would be surprised to know about you.

I’ve definitely played Dungeons and Dragons before.

I also like to paint. #artsy

Favorite…

Movie: It’s a tie between Memoirs of a Geisha and Pride and Prejudice.

Book: I can’t pick one favorite, but I’ve been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman recently and I think he’s great!

TV show: Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders, Outlander, Modern Family, and Saturday Night Live

Pickup line: Did Sauron forge you in the Sammath Naur? ‘Cause boy, you precious.
