Every now and then, a show can make its audience feel like they are being spoken to. I recently started a show on Hulu called The Bold Type that truly speaks to me. The Bold Type is about three young girls named Jane, Kat, and Sutton who live in Brooklyn, NY, and work for Scarlet magazine.

This relatable show, which premiered in 2017, is four seasons long with a fifth season premiering in the next few months! In addition to highlighting typical 20-year-olds’ experiences, The Bold Type tackles issues ranging from sexual assault and racism to falling in love with the wrong guy. This show is also so informative about the magazine and digital publishing industry and what a typical work environment is like.

For me personally, I love this show because I relate to the three young women from their love stories, incredible friendships, fashion styles, and career paths, which at times seem smooth and at other times can take an unexpected turn. There are so many ups and downs during our 20’s and this show encapsulates so many moments that we may possibly encounter as we grow up.

As I watch the journey of these three incredible and strong women, I feel like the show becomes a part of me more and more. I watch the main characters make mistakes, fall down and get back up and have each other’s backs when they need each other the most, even when they get on each other’s nerves.

A fifth season will be on the horizon in the next few months and I cannot wait to see where the adventures will take them next. I think the show truly speaks to all of us and lets us know that it’s okay to fall and take chances. It also reminds us that we may think we have all of the answers but in reality, especially in our 20’s, we are all still trying to find our voices.
