With a long week full of tests, quizzes, papers and meetings, who can blame you for counting down the days until the weekend? And when Friday finally rolls around, the only way to celebrate is to plan something fun and memorable! While staying around campus can be great up to a certain point, when you live in a city as exciting and cultured as New Orleans, there’s so much more to do than stay within a block radius of campus.

Here’s a couple of my favorite picks for fun Friday night!

Sushi Happy Hour

Kakkoii

Tuesdays-Fridays 5-7pm

7537 Maple St.

If you’ve read any of my other articles, you understand how obsessed I am with finding good places to eat. And if this delicious restaurant excursion fits perfectly into my budget, it’s an added bonus! With $3 sushi rolls during happy hour, this is a great deal. Just look at the menu (I crave the spicy tuna rolls all the time) and I dare you not to run over there the first opportunity you get!

Frenchmen Street

New Orleans is known throughout the world for being home to some pretty amazing music. We’re lucky enough to live in a city with some of the most talented musicians in the world, so why not take advantage of it?  Frenchmen Street has an unlimited supply of amazing music. Even if you don’t go into any of the bars and clubs, there’s great bands that will just play on the street. Check out this guide to Frenchmen Street to help plan your visit!

Ghost Tours

When you’re living in a city known for spooky cemeteries and voodoo, it’s no surprise that a ghost tour should be on your to-do list. So grab a group of friends who won’t make too much fun of you for getting scared and head down the French Quarter for a fun and historically relevant ghost tour! I’ve heard great things about French Quarter Phantoms!

And if you really can’t bring yourself to leave your dorm…

Sometimes it’s just too much effort to plan something to do–we’ve all been there! If you’ve gotten to this point, my best recommendation is a restorative night in with your friends. I’ve tried two great take out places so far–Jazmine Cafe (definitely make sure to try the spring rolls) and Chiba (again, I love tuna rolls). And if you’re really feeling in the New Orleans spirit, check out this list of movies filmed in the Big Easy.
