4 Strategies to Make Finals Studying Enjoyable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

It’s the end of the semester again. That means it’s time to start preparing for finals. However, following my tips will allow for a fun studying atmosphere. I believe it is possible to study for finals while enjoying springtime in New Orleans.

Study Outside

My first tip is to try studying outside for a change. While the library is a great space to focus, sunshine is proven to make you happier. Why not develop a tan and study at the same time? Some of my go-to spots for studying outside include Audubon Park and the LBC Quad. Just remember to wear sunscreen.

Spend Time With Friends

While studying with friends can prove distracting, they can also be a motivational tool. Personally, if I see my friends focusing, I feel the need to focus as well. Additionally, the Testing Effect is proven to be a good studying strategy. The Testing Effect is utilized through working with friends and quizzing each other on the material.

Fuel Your Body With Delicious Food

Instead of eating at Bruff for every meal, rewarding yourself with a good meal after a day of studying will be motivational. Go to breakfast with friends to fuel your body before studying, or Uber Eats Willa Jean cookies for that extra motivational push.

Allow for Breaks

Breaks are essential to maintaining motivation. During finals, I like to block out time to work out on a daily basis. Working out allows my mind to de-stress. Whether going for a run in Audubon Park, taking a yoga class, or lifting weights at Reily, I feel refreshed after sweating out my frustrations.
