Even though this winter has been particularly tough and snowy, spring is finally coming to campus, bringing with it the promise of sunshine and flowers. As the season changes, we Collegiettes can finally begin to shed our heavy winter coats and snow boots and embrace the days of cut offs and tank tops. But clothing is not the only trend that changes in the spring; your beauty choices can also be updated to reflect the changing weather. Here are some of the top beauty trends this spring that will perfectly reflect the happy, bright effects of spring.

Pastel Nails
Pretty Easter colors aren’t only for eggs! Try painting your nails a pale, opaque shade to encompass the pastel trend. Colors like lilac and baby blue are in right now, and as an added plus, the blue can double as a show of school spirit! We recommend Essie’s “Lilacism,” “Something Blue,” or “Mint Candy Apple,” if green is more your style.

Candy-Colored Hair Tips
Bubblegum-colored hairstreaks were all over the runways this season. A bright color can be unexpectedly cute when mixed in with a natural hair shade, and certain colors tend to work well with different bases. Try tinting blonde hair with some blue, or mixing in some pink for brunettes. We recommend using hair chalk, which is a fun, semi-permanent way to add some edge to your look. Coloring just the tips of hair can also be a cool way to add a slight ombre affect. Free People is currently offering a great set of hair chalk with a ton of different colors, which is a great option for those daring enough to experiment!

Bold Lips
A bright but simple lip color can be unexpectedly fresh when paired with neutral makeup. Although lipstick can sometimes seem somewhat “mom-ish,” a vivid color is anything but. Pair a fuchsia or red-orange with fresh skin and a few coats of mascara for an easy going-out look that isn’t too fussy. If you’re hesitant to use lipstick, there are a lot of new gel formulas that are more like a balm than actual make up. Maybelline’s new Color Whisper lip line has a lot of fun shades that provide the perfect pop of color.

Undone, Beachy Hair
It’s time to put away the straighteners and curling irons, and embrace natural texture. Many celebrities and models have recently been sporting styles that look like they just rolled out of bed. A messy bun is a great way to keep your hair under control when spring winds are whipping around campus. Likewise, beachy waves are the perfect style for going out, and they require very little maintenance. To achieve the desirable texture, spray a texturizing spray like Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray to damp hair, and then twist your hair into a bun until it is mostly dry. When you shake the bun out, your hair will be perfectly messy, yet still look adorably cute! It’s a win/win.
